Norwich Team Takes on the Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research

This October, seven members of the Home Instead Norwich office team came together to take part in the Shine Night Walk Norwich.

Completing a 10km route through the city in support of Cancer Research UK.

Emma-Jane, Emma W, Catherine, Amanda, Jody, Jenny and Sonia set off from Chapelfield Gardens at 7 pm, joining others across Norwich to raise awareness and support vital cancer research.

The route took them past some of Norwich’s familiar landmarks, including Norwich Cathedral, Norwich Castle and Carrow Road, giving the team a chance to see the city from a different perspective as evening turned to night.

Why Cancer Research Matters

Cancer affects millions of people and their families, with more than 200 different types of cancer. Research plays an important role in understanding how cancer develops, improving early detection and developing better treatments.

Progress takes time and depends on continued research, funding, and public support. Charity events such as the Shine Night Walk give communities an opportunity to contribute to that work while showing support for people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

Coming Together for a Cause

The 10km walk took around two hours to complete. There were conversations, encouragement and, inevitably, some tired legs along the way.

But taking part was about more than completing the distance. It was an opportunity for colleagues to spend time together outside the usual working environment while supporting a cause that has touched so many families.

For many people, cancer is personal. It may be a loved one, a friend, a colleague, or someone whose memory they carry with them. That personal connection is often what motivates people to take part in events like this.

At Home Instead Norwich, supporting others is at the heart of what we do. Our work is built around compassion, dignity, and being there for people when they need support. Taking part in the Shine Night Walk was another way for our team to put those values into action.

Every Contribution Matters

Events like the Shine Night Walk remind us that making a difference does not always require something extraordinary. Giving your time, raising awareness, making a donation or simply showing up can all contribute to meaningful change.

We are proud to see our team come together for such a meaningful cause.
