Home Care in Usk & Raglan: Trusted Local Support
Home care in Usk, Raglan and the surrounding villages – companionship, personal care, dementia support and live-in care from a local team.

Usk and Raglan are the kind of places people retire to and then never leave. A proper square, independent shops, a castle on the doorstep, and the sort of community where the shopkeeper knows your name and notices if you have not been in. For older residents, that familiarity is worth a great deal and it is exactly what makes the idea of moving into residential care somewhere else so unwelcome.
Home Instead Monmouth, Abergavenny and Pontypool supports older people across Usk, Raglan and the villages between them. Led locally by Karen and Laura Clatworthy, rated 9.6/10 on homecare.co.uk and named one of the Top 20 home care providers in Wales, we help people stay exactly where they want to be.

What we can help with
- Everyday home care companionship visits, home help and housekeeping, personal care, daytime care and overnight care.
- Specialist care dementia care at home, Parkinson’s, cancer, arthritis and mobility difficulties, and palliative care.
- Live-in care a dedicated Care Professional living in the home, which suits the more isolated properties around here particularly well.
- Respite for family carers from a few hours a week to a fortnight of full cover.
Every visit is a minimum of one hour. Out here that matters more than it does in a town it makes it worth travelling properly to someone, and it means nobody is watching the clock.
Our Memory Café is in Usk
This is worth knowing if you live locally. We run a monthly Memory Café right here in Usk, alongside the one in Monmouth. It is open to anybody people living with dementia, family carers, or simply anyone who would like a couple of hours of tea, cake, live music and conversation. You do not need to be a client, and there is no need to book or explain yourself.
For a lot of the families we support in this area, the café came first and the care came later.
Keeping local life going
A visit might mean a walk around Twyn Square and a coffee, a trip to the shops or the butcher, getting to the Usk Show in September, a drive out to Raglan Castle on a good afternoon, a hair appointment that has been in the diary for twenty years, or getting to chapel on a Sunday. For someone who has been part of this community for decades, staying part of it is most of what good care is for.
The village realities
Care in this part of the county comes with its own practicalities, and we are used to them:
- Properties down long lanes with postcodes that send a SatNav to the wrong farm entirely. Our Care Professionals learn the routes.
- Limited public transport which means that when driving stops, getting anywhere depends on someone else. Our visits often include the trip out, not just the help at home.
- Distance from services the pharmacy, the surgery and the hospital are all a drive away. Collecting prescriptions and getting to appointments is a genuine part of what we do.
- Hard winters lanes that ice over and stay iced. Shopping brought in matters more than it sounds.
- Watchful neighbours a real asset around here, and still not a substitute for trained support.
When families here get in touch
- Coming home from hospital from Nevill Hall, the Grange University Hospital or elsewhere, needing support through the first weeks.
- When memory starts to change missed meals, repeated questions, confusion about tablets.
- After a fall particularly where someone lives alone down a quiet lane.
- When the car goes and a parent who drove everywhere is suddenly stuck.
- When a husband or wife is caring alone often for longer than anyone outside the house realised.
How it starts
- An initial chat a friendly phone call, no script and no pressure.
- A care consultation at home, building a plan around your loved one’s routines and preferences.
- Introductions Care Professionals matched on personality and interests as well as skills, and introduced before care begins.
- Care begins with a consistent small team, overseen by our Registered Care Manager, Nesta Bishop.
