Join us in celebrating Elaine's 10 years at Home Instead Norwich, bringing companionship, care, and experience to our clients and team.
At Home Instead Norwich, we pride ourselves on the exceptional people who are the heartbeat of our service – our Care Professionals. Today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate one of our own long-standing members of the team, Elaine, for reaching a decade of delivering dedicated care to older adults in Norwich.
Ten years is a remarkable milestone, and for someone as committed and personable as Elaine, it’s been a journey full of growth, friendship, and great memories.
Before joining us, Elaine had spent 30 years at Inland Revenue, and was a debt collector since leaving school. While there, she developed strong people skills, especially in dealing with sensitive subjects, and communication expertise, although she was missing face-to-face interaction and was seeking an opportunity to improve that skill too.
Redundancy in 2013 led Elaine to embracing a new vocation, and to us at Home Instead Norwich. The way things turned out, redundancy was the start of something new, and we are so delighted that we became Elaine’s new work family. Her story is also a great example of the possibilities of starting something new and changing careers even after 30 years!
Over the last 10 years with us at Home Instead Norwich, Elaine has not just completely mastered that face-to-face connection (she’s a person who always starts a friendly conversation and builds strong relationships) she has also become an essential and highly valued companion in the lives of so many of our home care clients.
We talked to Elaine about her favourite aspects of the role of a Care Professional and visiting our clients in their own homes in Norwich. For Elaine, her favourite thing about the role is the companionship she is able to offer as part of her visits. In fact, it’s all about the relationships she builds and the shared bond with her clients. She tells us that all her clients are lovely and that they all get on well.
We understand the huge difference our Care Professionals make to our clients – they are the heart of our home care service – and Elaine consistently brings smiles to her clients with a friendly chat, a shared story, or a mutual interest, and as she says herself this is especially important given that sometimes Elaine is the only person her client might speak to all day. That sense of responsibility is what drives Elaine, she explains that it’s rewarding knowing the difference she is making, in ways only meaningful connections can.
In fact a key aspect that Elaine brings to her role – and indeed what makes her such a special member of our team – is her knack for conversation and her ability to find common ground with anyone. Through her caring work, Elaine isn’t just providing practical support; she’s ensuring that every client feels seen, heard, and valued.
One of Elaine’s favourite memories of the last 10 years is learning to cook alongside a client, as both wanted to improve their cooking skills, they could do this together.
It’s lovely to learn how Home Instead brought enjoyment for both Elaine and her client from doing things together, with shared goals, of celebrating the small victories in the kitchen, and the satisfaction of a meal prepared and enjoyed together.
And speaking of her cooking skills, there is something else Elaine has in common with many of our local clients – as well as culinary legend Delia Smith – Elaine is also a dedicated Norwich City Football Club fan!
As we acknowledge Elaine and thank her for all she has done over the last 10 years with us, it’s not just the length of her commitment that we’re celebrating, it’s the immeasurable impact she’s had on the lives of those clients and families she has visited.
From all of us at Home Instead Norwich, we thank Elaine for a decade of warmth, professionalism, and exceptional care. Here’s to the many more stories, connections and memories yet to come.
