It can be frustrating for our loved ones because they can’t do everything they used to and feel like they’re losing their independence. Internationally acclaimed dementia care expert, Teepa Snow, delivered a dementia workshop to a packed hall at the Lantern Arts Centre in Raynes Park, Wimbledon, which we were delighted to attend. Her goal, as a trainer and consultant, is to help communities, professionals and families develop the awareness, knowledge and skills they need to support someone living with the brain changes of dementia. What a motivating and inspirational day.

Our Stay Nourished Campaign has been launched to raise awareness about eating a healthy well balance diet, statistics show that 50% of over 75s eat less food than they used to. At Home Instead we hope to be able to help educate our local community about the importance of nutrition and how to spot malnutrition. There are warning signs that someone may be affected by poor diet and this knowledge will hopefully give families the confidence to talk openly with their elderly relatives about food and nutrition, We are committed to helping older people to eat well, drink well and age well. We have trained our CAREGivers on this subject and have provided them with tools, nutrition guides and useful advise to support their clients to eat healthily and avoid illness through poor nutrition. We have already held one open event in December and plan to run more throughout the next few months- please contact us to find out the dates or just to ask our advice.
