Super David Does it again

Our own Super David Horton has completeed the recent London marathon again!! in a fantastic time of 5 hours and 30 minutes, while raising over £900 for the Prostate cancer charity.

David is our most senior CAREGiver at Home Instead Senior Care Telford, Newport and Bridgnorth and is a wonderful example of an older person still willing and able to work beyond retirement age. In fact, he is a remarkable human being and at 73 years old, he has no intention of slowing down! Believe it or not, this is Davids 27th marathon which he has been running since the age of 59 and has raised over £30,000 for charity!

Passionate about running, David kept himself in shape both physically and mentally with short distance running during his 6 months of chemotherapy. A few days after he was cleared of cancer in January 2007, he started training for the London Marathon, successfully completing it in April, 2007, just 4 months after being cleared of the bone cancer.

Jenny Ballantine, owner of Home Instead, Telford, Newport and Bridgnorth, also commented. She said, “We are so lucky to have David as a CAREGiver. He is truly an inspiration, and is working on achieving the highest level of training qualifications. He is 100% client focused and is proof that the over 50s are a highly effective care resource.

“We match our CAREGivers to clients and many of our clients often like to be cared for by someone closer to their own age plus they have the life skills to understand the issues faced by those in need of care. It’s why we already employ many people who are over 50. David has become a fantastic advocate for Home Instead, encouraging others who may be apprehensive to ‘give it a go!’ and has recently completed a talk at RAF Cosford on his exploits and being a carer.

“Much of the work in the sector is part-time so is ideal for anyone looking to do a few hours to a few days’ work each week.”
