Many people face long delay in having dementia diagnosed

The All-Parliamentary Group on Dementia have reported 'shocking' delays for dementia diagnosis and treatment for many patients, with GP's often seen as a barrier to diagnosis, and many having to wait a year for an appointment at a memory clinic. Early diagnosis is essential to ensure that the correct support is available for both the person with dementia and those supporting the individual.

At Home Instead East Shropshire, covering Telford, Newport, Gnosall, Bridgnorth, Albrighton, Much Wenlock and surrounding areas with home care, we work very hard with both families and health professionals to make sure each and every one of our clients receives the best possible care and support available.

Over 800,000 people are suspected of having dementia in the UK, and this number is set to grow over the coming years. We all need to work together to raise awareness of the condition and let families and carers know that they are not alone.

Early diagnosis, appropriate medication, community support and consistent professional guidance, combined together can help improve the lives of all  those living with dementia. For more information please call and speak to Caroline, our Care Manager.
