Lee and Bal Harrington
I joined the Home Instead team in September 2013 after having spent all my working life in retail. I reached a point in my life where I wanted to make a more meaningful impact in my community and the care sector caught my eye as I felt I could make a positive difference.
I chose Home Instead as we share the same values and beliefs towards caring for others. At the time, I had an elderly father and therefore had certain expectations for what I wanted him to still be able to get out of life. I transposed this into my expectations for every individual supported by my team. I am passionate about enabling each individual we support to continue living comfortable and rewarding lives through the support received by my team.
My personal challenges have highlighted to me how intrinsic it is to find the right person to best support your loved ones and as an extension of the way your loved ones are treated, the impact on the family can be very positive and sometimes a relief, enabling you to see to other responsibilities and commitments with a feeling of being in control.
My wife Bal joined the Home Instead team in 2016 to support my continued efforts in bringing great care to our community. Together we want to empower individuals to be the best they can be by providing the resources they need to develop professionally as our employees or with the right support as one of our clients.
With time, there is space for patience which enables someone to feel cared for, appreciated, and have conversation. In today’s time deficient world, it can be a challenge to give the time we would like to, and this leads to seeking support from others who have similar beliefs and values. When it’s your loved one, whatever you do will be fuelled by emotion and your desire to want to do the best. Your decisions will always be measured against your sense of responsibility…which is often unmeasurable, and your need to do more can sometimes be overwhelming.
Bal and I are committed to making a difference to the lives of the people in our community. Whether that’s supporting young people to take their first steps in the workplace, helping adults back into work after a setback or creating opportunities for the vulnerable in our community to get together and have a little fun. Call me if there is anything me and my team can help you with, or even if just for a chat to think things through.
