Home Instead Senior Care (Altrincham & Sale) have recently established a local group called the "Sale Square Mile" to help organisations raise awareness of the services they provide in the community. Owners of the Altrincham & Sale office, Lucy Gill and Alan Savage, live near the Sale town centre and came up with the idea after talking with many other organisations.
To create local awareness Lucy and Alan have planned a Community Open Day on November 24th (10:30-3:00pm) at St Paul’s Church Hall in Sale Town Centre.
This is an opportunity for local retailers & businesses to represent themselves alongside local voluntary groups, churches, societies, leisure groups, housing associations and also the NHS.
At the Community Open Day there will be over 30 different organisations with stalls including a fairy woodland photography studio, an Age UK information stand, Human Bingo on the hour, storytellers entertaining those in the cafe. Local charities such as Stockdales and local gift shops from the Sale area will be bountiful. If there are other organisations that would like to host a stand then please call Lucy.
Home Instead Senior Care are also promoting their 'Be a Santa to a Senior' project. This is where members of the public can buy a present for an elderly person in the community who might otherwise not receive many presents at Xmas. Members of the public can come along to the Open Day and hand in their present by either buying a present from the various stands or by buying a present from the local shops. The presents will then be distributed amongst the community by church groups and voluntary sector organisations like Age UK.
Retailers in Sale that are members of the Sale Town Centre Partnership are also supporting the ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ project. Many local stores are supporting the event so look out for the 'Be a Santa to a Senior' Christmas Gift tags in stores. Also, Springfield School are supporting the project by designing 120 Christmas cards that will accompany the presents. Lucy will be helping children in year 5 and 6 to design the Christmas cards.
To promote the events leaflets & posters will be distributed throughout Sale. Lucy has also set up a Facebook site at www.facebook.com/SaleSquareMile and a Twitter account @SaleSquareMile. The whole community are welcome to get involved & lookout for daily updates.
The date also coincides with Sale Town Centre switching on the Christmas lights, entertainment during the day & a Santa parade at The Waterside. Hopefully this will make Sale a great place to be on the 24th November.
