Home Instead Wandsworth Joins Walk for Parkinson's at Battersea Park

Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth and Dulwich joins Walk for Parkinson’s 2026 at Battersea Park to raise awareness and support people living with Parkinson’s.

Some days stay with you long after they’re over — and Saturday, 5th September was one of them. Under the open skies of Battersea Park, our team at Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth and Dulwich laced up, stepped out, and walked side by side with hundreds of others for one simple, powerful reason: to support people living with Parkinson’s.

It was a privilege to be part of the Walk for Parkinson’s London 2026, and an even greater privilege to see just how many people — colleagues, carers, and their families — chose to give up their Saturday for a cause so close to our hearts.

A Team Effort — Who Walked With Us

Every great day starts with great people, and this one was no exception.

Leading the way for Home Instead was our owner, Tony, who was there from the start, walking alongside the wider team and representing everything our agency stands for in the community. We were also delighted to be joined on the day by Neil Flack, Parkinson’s UK’s Community Fundraiser, whose energy and organisation helped bring the whole event together — and whose partnership with our team made our involvement possible in the first place.

Two of our wonderful carers, Lindsay and Anne, took part too — stepping away from their everyday roles supporting our clients to show their support in a different, equally meaningful way. What made the day even more special was that Lindsay didn’t walk alone. She was joined by her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, turning the walk into a genuine family affair. Seeing three generations of one family walking together for the same cause was, quite simply, one of the loveliest moments of the day — a small but powerful reminder of how far compassion can travel when it’s shared.

Why This Cause Matters to Us

At Home Instead, we spend every day supporting people through some of life’s most challenging moments — and Parkinson’s is a condition many of our clients and their families know all too well. Taking part in this walk wasn’t just a nice gesture; it felt like a natural extension of the work we do every single day. Every step taken at Battersea Park was a step towards better care, better research, and better support for people living with Parkinson’s across the country.

On the Day — What It Was Like

Battersea Park provided the perfect backdrop for the occasion. With its flat, tree-lined paths and the historic Bandstand as the beating heart of the event, there was a real sense of community in the air from the moment registration opened.

Walkers had the choice of two routes — a gentle 1.5-mile loop around the park, or the more ambitious 6.2-mile route that wound its way along the Thames Path, crossing Wandsworth Bridge before returning via the iconic Albert Bridge. Whichever distance people chose, the atmosphere was the same throughout: warm, welcoming, and full of encouragement. Strangers cheered each other on, families walked at their own pace, and even the occasional four-legged companion trotted along on a lead.

By the time the last walkers crossed the finish line, there was a shared feeling of quiet pride — the kind that only comes from doing something meaningful together.

Fundraising Impact

Every pound raised on the day goes directly towards Parkinson’s UK’s vital work, including funding specialist nurses through their Nurse Appeal — a cause that makes a genuine difference to people living with Parkinson’s and their families across the UK. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who sponsored our team and to everyone who dug into their pockets to support walkers on the day. Every contribution, no matter the size, adds up to real change.

A Word of Thanks

We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Neil Flack and the entire Parkinson’s UK team for organising such a wonderful event and for welcoming us so warmly as a sponsor this year. Thank you also to Tony, Lindsay, Anne, and Lindsay’s family for representing Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth, and Dulwich with such heart. Days like this remind us why community matters — and why the people we work with and the people we care for are so often the same people who inspire us most.

Looking Ahead

Our partnership with Parkinson’s UK doesn’t end here. We’re proud to continue supporting their work throughout the year, and we’re already looking forward to being part of future events. If this walk has inspired you to get involved — whether that’s joining next year’s walk, fundraising, or simply learning more about Parkinson’s — we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you to everyone who walked, cheered, donated, and believed in this cause alongside us. Here’s to many more days like this one.
