Home Instead Named Finalists for Stars of Dementia Care Awards 2026

We’re delighted to share that Home Instead has been named a finalist for The Above and Beyond Dementia Team Award (North), recognising our ongoing commitment to supporting people living with dementia and creating more dementia-friendly communities.

At the heart of everything we do is our shared vision of Dementia in the Community. We believe that making a meaningful difference to people living with dementia starts with understanding, awareness and compassion. Our aim is to help individuals maintain their independence, feel valued and stay connected to the people and communities around them.

Making a Difference Beyond the Home

Our commitment to dementia care extends far beyond the support we provide in people’s homes. Through the work of our dedicated dementia trainers, we actively raise awareness, share knowledge and help people within our local communities feel more confident understanding and supporting those affected by dementia.

By working with local organisations, businesses and community groups, we want to create environments where people living with dementia feel understood, included and supported.

We recognise that building dementia-friendly communities is something we all have a part to play in, and we’re passionate about helping make that happen.

Investing in Knowledge and Specialist Training

Providing high-quality, person-centred care starts with ensuring our Care Professionals have the right knowledge, skills and confidence.

Every new Care Professional receives dementia awareness training as part of their induction, giving them an understanding of the condition and how it can affect individuals differently. Following their probation period, they go on to complete a more in-depth, City & Guilds-equivalent dementia course, further developing their knowledge and understanding.

This ongoing commitment to learning helps our Care Professionals provide compassionate, individualised support that respects each person’s identity, preferences and abilities.

Bringing Dementia Awareness into Our Communities

An important part of our Dementia in the Community initiative is helping people understand what it can really be like to live with dementia. Through our Dementia Experiences and informative talks, we invite members of the local community to learn more about the condition, challenge common misconceptions and develop a greater understanding of the challenges individuals and their families may face.

Our dementia experiences offer participants an opportunity to gain a better insight into how dementia can affect everyday activities, communication and independence. By experiencing some of these challenges first-hand, we hope to encourage greater empathy and understanding.

Alongside these sessions, we host dementia talks covering a range of topics, sharing practical advice, guidance and information to help people feel more confident supporting someone living with dementia.

Whether someone is caring for a loved one, working within the community or simply wants to learn more, these sessions provide an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and build knowledge.

Ultimately, our aim is to make dementia better understood, reduce stigma and create communities where everyone feels supported and included.
