A perfect score in care delivery

Home Instead Chichester & Bognor Regis is celebrating a rare milestone in care – achieving a perfect score in its latest inspection.

The team couldn’t be prouder of the result which saw it rated ‘Outstanding’ by England’s regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

What makes the achievement even more wonderful is that Home Instead Chichester & Bognor Regis is the only CQC-rated home care service in West Sussex rated as Outstanding in all five areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.*

“While a small number of other home care services in the county are rated Outstanding overall, none currently holds Outstanding in all five areas,” said Simon McGee, owner of Home Instead Chichester & Bognor Regis.

“This really is testament to our exceptional, person-centred care which sees our highly trained Care Professionals really understanding the needs of our clients and supporting them to live independent lives at home.”

Outstanding care in action…

The report praised “exceptional and distinctive practice across all areas of care and support” and highlighted how Care Professionals “go above and beyond what they have to do.”

In one example, a client was supported to move from a nursing home back into their own home, where Care Professionals followed detailed mobility exercises recommended by an occupational therapist. Within five months, the client had improved their mobility and was much happier back in their own home.

Another family member described how Care Professionals would sit and talk to their loved one about local history because it was something he enjoyed, adding: “They always do a bit extra.”

Simon added: “I couldn’t be prouder of our Care Professionals. They make a difference every day through the time they take, the relationships they build and the attention they give to what matters to each person.”

Community initiatives in Chichester and beyond

And it goes beyond care, as the CQC praised the team’s involvement in local initiatives aimed at reducing social isolation and improving support for older people.

This includes involvement in Dementia Friendly Communities and local End of Life Care Networks, as well as helping to establish a new Care Shop in East Wittering.

Community partners described Home Instead as “pivotal in developing many initiatives locally”, while health professionals highlighted its strong local reputation for delivering high-quality care.

They described how the Cloud Nine initiative helps people fulfil personal ambitions, from visiting the zoo to flying in a plane. They also recognised the work to help people remain independent at home and, when it is their wish, receive compassionate support at the end of life.

Simon added: “We have always believed great home care should be about much more than completing tasks. It is about helping people continue to live their lives, stay connected to the people and communities around them, and retain as much independence and choice as possible.

“A wonderful recognition of the work of our Care Professionals”

Simon added: “To be rated Outstanding is something any care service would be immensely proud of. To achieve a perfect five out of five Outstanding rating is incredibly special and a wonderful recognition of our Care Professionals and the wider team behind them.

“But what matters most is what sits behind those ratings: people feeling safe, maintaining their independence, being treated as individuals and receiving care from people who genuinely know and care about them.

“I’m also enormously grateful to our clients and their families for trusting us with their care and for sharing their experiences with CQC. This report belongs to the whole team and to the clients and families who allow us to be part of their lives.”
