Great Parks to visit in Belfast
Coming into the better weather, it's important to get some daylight and fresh air as it has so many health benefits. Here are some parks we recommend visiting in Belfast.
Victoria Park
In the Connswater area of East Belfast, Victoria Park is opened 7 days a week. This park has a beautiful lake which you can spot swans, ducks and other wildlife on your walk. In the centre of the park, you can watch activities such as cricket or bowling- and even get involved! At the park entrance there is a coffee van and benches you can stop for a rest.
Botanic Gardens
Located next to Queen’s University, the botanic gardens is popular among students, office workers and tourists. The botanic gardens is a fantastic place to enjoy the gorgeous plants and flowers, containing a Victorian glasshouse. It also has numerous benches, perfect for people watching. The majority of the park is wide for wheelchair users and has tarmac paths.
Drumglass Park
One of the smaller parks on the list, Drumglass Park is located between Malone and the Lisburn Road. It is opened between 7.30am and 9.30pm. This is a perfect place for a short walk and contains many benches, perfect for people watching. The path has a slight incline and is tarmac throughout. Being on the Lisburn Road allows for the opportunity to enjoy excellent coffee and treats after your walk- with many cafes to choose from.
Musgrave Park
Beside Musgrave Park Hospital, this park is popular with walkers and joggers. It was named after Sir Henry Musgrave, who donated the land used to build the park. Musgrave Park has two bowling greens and an innovative therapy garden, which was developed to improve the quality of life, development and wellbeing of local residents. There is disabled parking available and access is through Stockman’s Lane.
Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park
Located South of the city, this park includes meadows, woodland, riverside fields, formal rose gardens, a walled garden and a Japanese garden, covering 130 acres. The park hosts an annual International Roses Trial, involving judges from around the world. There is disabled parking and a coffee shop, perfect to relax after admiring the roses.
