The low down on all the fun activities available to you at the Age Concern Social Club local to our Home Instead office in Twyford/Ruscombe.
We at Home Instead, have had close ties with the Age Concern Community Centre in Twyford for around a decade. You may remember for many years we hosted our Be A Santa To A Senior Christmas Tea party for about 120 of their members which were always a great deal of fun. And since Covid, we now create Christmas hampers for the team at Age Concern to distribute among their members. So, we sat down for a chat with Centre Manager Alan Boyle, to find out what’s going on at the centre.
The Senior Social Club, as the centre has recently been renamed, is open to anyone over the age of 55 years. It’s a great place, central to Twyford, to meet new friends in a fun, safe and happy environment. Many of our Home Instead clients local to Twyford have enjoyed spending time at the club thought the years, often being dropped off by our Care Professionals (all our team have cars to help you get out and about!) after being helped with their morning routine. The Age Concern team are experienced in conditions such as dementia, Stroke, Parkinson’s and with mobility issues so it’s a very inclusive place to spend time – everyone is very welcome and they aim for nobody to feel isolated or lonely – Debs, the Care Manager at the club certainly ensures that!
The Social Club is open Monday – Friday 10am-3pm for activities, which includes seated exercises, crafts, quizzes, sing a longs and much more. There are often live entertainers in attendance and a lunch club (we can personally vouch for the great food there!), from 12-2pm weekdays.
The centre is visited by a Podiatrist every other Thursday. Bookings need to be made in advance, so call or email [email protected] with 30min treatments costing around £35 for members (or £45 for non-members). After the recent refurbishment, the centre also now has a very snazzy, an onsite hairdressers, open every other Tuesday, offering wash, cut and blow dry’s from £30.
Membership of the social club is just £30 a year, with additional charges for meals and full or half days activities. If you’d like more information about the Senior Social Club, call Alan on 0118 934 4040 or email [email protected]
