Yesterday, we stood together in Sawbridgeworth to honour a moment in history that shaped our nation forever — the 80th anniversary of VE Day
Victory in Europe Day marks the end of World War II in Europe, and it was our great honour to take part in this year’s deeply moving remembrance service.
On 8th May 2025, the town of Sawbridgeworth came together in solemn reflection and celebration, paying tribute to the brave men and women who served during the war. Home Instead East Herts, based in Allen House Business Centre, was privileged to be among those attending this special commemoration.
Sharon and Jo from our team attended the ceremony, proudly representing Home Instead. Jo also laid a wreath in memory of those who served and sacrificed. We would also like to thank Reedings Junior School for allowing Albie to attend this meaningful event in support of our presence there. They were joined by Jo’s grandson, Albie, who experienced a profound moment of connection to history and community. For Albie, the day served as a meaningful reminder of the sacrifices made and the importance of remembrance — a moment he will never forget.
David Bassett, Owner of Home Instead East Herts, shared his gratitude and reflections on being a part of such an important day:
“It was a true privilege and honour for us to be part of this very special event. I want to thank everyone who attended and those in our community who continue to share their stories, memories, and strength. Most importantly, we remember those who gave their lives in the war, and we continue to honour their legacy through our care and community spirit.”
VE Day is not just about looking back — it’s also about how we carry forward the values of courage, unity, and resilience. Events like these strengthen our community ties and allow generations, young and old, to connect through shared history and respect.
At Home Instead, we are proud to serve those who lived through these moments in history, and we remain committed to supporting our clients, many of whom have stories of wartime courage and perseverance that continue to inspire us all.
Lest We Forget.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to those who organised and took part in yesterday’s event, and to all those who continue to serve our community with compassion and dedication.
