Support for older Adults with dementia in Calderdale

Dementia affects more than 850,000 people in the UK and the figure is growing at an unprecedented rate.

Following a diagnosis of dementia, families are unsure how they will cope. Fortunately there is lots of support available in Calderdale and Kirklees to help people.

Calderdale Dementia Hub

If you live in Calderdale, a good place to start is Calderdale Dementia Hub (link to Homepage – Calderdale Dementia).  They offer advice and information for people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends.

The Hub is based at Age UK Calderdale’s Mobility Shop in the Woolshops, Halifax and aim to ensure people within the Calderdale Community have access to a wide range of dementia information and advice and run carer support groups and a group for people with dementia who are willing to share their views or experiences or want to connect with other people living with dementia.

Kirklees Dementia Hub

Kirklees Dementia Hub (Kirklees Dementia Hub | Community Links (commlinks.co.uk)) provides the same service for people who live in Huddersfield and the Spen Valley/Cleckheaton area. They are based at the Lion Chambers in Huddersfield, opposite the Railway Station.

Memory Lane Cafe

Memory Lane Café Memory Lane Cafe run very popular fortnightly sessions with music, dancing and games at The Maurice Jagger Centre in Halifax on Mondays and also at St.Paul’s Methodist Church in Sowerby Bridge on Saturdays.

The Riverside Cafe meet fortnightly on Wednesdays at St.Bartholomew’s Church in Ripponden.

Daisy’s Cafe meet on the first Saturday in the month at Todmorden Health Centre

The Daisy Chain cafe meet on the 2nd Wednesday in the month from 1pm to 3pm at Blackburn House in Ovenden, Halifax and at St. Columba’s Church Hall, Highroad Well Lane, Halifax on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday: 1.30 to 3pm.

Brighouse Dementia Cafe meet on the first Wednesday in the month from 10.30am to 12pm at St. Chad’s Church, Hove Edge.

Calderdale Carer’s Wellbeing Service Making Space | Carer support for adults living in Calderdale provides support for family carers. They hold a peer support group at Rimani House, Halifax on the last Tuesday of each month.
