Bramley and Sherfield - historic and modern
First settled in prehistoric times
Bramley is a village and parish in north Hampshire, five miles north of Basingstoke, with a population of just under 6,000. Evidence can still be seen today of a prehistoric settlement here, thought to be a Celtic “triple-walled dun”.
And now a film set
The 900-acre Bramley Camp to the south of the village is a military training area used mainly by SAS reserves, but it is a valuable haven for wildlife, particularly badgers, deer and pheasants. The camp has been used to film parts of the Channel 4 TV series Scrapheap Challenge and of the ITV series Midsomer Murders.
The nearby villages of Sherfield on Loddon and Sherfield Park (also known as Taylor’s Farm) have a combined population of over 3,000. Sherfield has a thriving close-knit village community, with the village green and duck pond at its heart and the scenic River Loddon flowing nearby.
