Furry Friends Companionship Cafe Success!

Dog Companionship Cafe for Dementia Action Week was a PAW-some event!

As part of Dementia Action Week (May 15th – 19th) we hosted our very own ‘Furry Friends Companionship Cafe’ in partnership with Dewkes, a local doggy cafe, and it was a huge success!

The eagerly anticipated and sold-out event welcomed those living with Dementia and their carers to come along and enjoy free coffee, cake, and companionship, with the added bonus of some gorgeous dogs to cuddle. Our VIP’s included Penny the Serbian Hound; Milo, Mollie and Nelly the Maltese cross’s, and Duke, the resident King Charles Cavalier, who all enjoyed the attention, and the treats of course!

The relationship between dogs and those living with Dementia is an interesting one, as Dogs can have many positive impacts, especially in social environments. Dogs can help reduce anxiety and stress, help combat depression and loneliness, and encourage engagement is social settings by offering a great ice-breaker. We saw many of these benefits on the day, and it was lovely to see our attendees happy and enjoying getting to know each other and the dogs.

We want to say a huge thank you to Dewkes for allowing us to host the event in their lovely venue, and for serving our guests on the day. We are looking forward to partnering again in the future to bring some more fun initiatives to the senior community of Swansea!
