Global Brand, Local Service

How it all started

Home Instead was founded by Paul and Lori Hogan in Omaha, Nebraska. After struggling to find quality care for Paul’s grandmother and deciding to care for her themselves, they soon realised the benefits of older people being cared for in their own homes. This inspired them to launch a care business with a difference, that could help other families just like theirs. The company subsequently started developing home care franchises within the US.

Transforming the UK home care market

The success of the US operations led to the Home Instead model being adopted by other countries: we now have franchises in 12 different international markets. Home Instead was set up in the UK by Trevor and Sam Brocklebank in 2005. Trevor and his family were frustrated by the lack of choice and quality of care in the UK. They wanted a service where someone could visit an older person for a few hours to help with cleaning, cooking and all-important companionship. Having identified this gap in the market, they discovered Home Instead and were given the opportunity to establish the UK home care franchise.

Further developments

In 2019, the UK franchise was sold back to Paul and Lori Hogan and put under the leadership of Martin Jones MBE, CEO Home Instead UK & International. Martin originally joined Home Instead in 2011, after experiencing poor levels of care for his father. He wanted to be involved in an environment where he could help make a difference to the lives of older people and their families.

A matter of Honor

In 2021, Home Instead was acquired by Honor Technology, a leading non-medical home care company, with Martin continuing to head our UK network. This has brought together the UK’s largest home care network with the leading home care technology and operations platform. It will enable us to continue enhancing the experiences of those we care for and our Care Professionals who look after them.

So how will this affect you if you become a franchisee? You’ll be part of an organisation that’s influencing changes in elderly care services both globally and locally. You’ll be delivering an innovative service whilst playing a key role in the local community, supported by our globally recognised brand. And you won’t need to worry about setting everything up from scratch – our model is already very well tried and tested.

Business opportunity

Owning a care franchise in the UK is a fantastic opportunity. The demand for care services is steadily increasing, and will continue to grow for many years to come. Home-based care is becoming a preferred choice to address this demand. By owning a care franchise, you have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of elderly individuals in need while also making a difference to your own.
