Bromley Dementia Action Week 2023

At Home Instead Bromley, Chislehurst & Orpington, we marked the event by running a dementia friends awareness session for care professionals at our office in West Wickham.

Dementia Action Week is a national awareness raising campaign, supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. Each year, individuals and organisations across the UK come together with the collective aim to raise awareness about the disease. This year the focus was to encourage more people who may be living with symptoms to seek a diagnosis.

Dementia diagnosis rates have stagnated, which leaves many facing the disease alone, without access to the vital support that a diagnosis can bring. Diagnosis is essential to ensure that the right support can be provided.

At Home Instead Bromley, Chislehurst & Orpington, we marked the event by running a dementia friends awareness session for care professionals at our office in West Wickham. This was a fun and interactive way to learn more about dementia, encouraging individuals make a pledge to change one small thing in their approach to the disease.

Home Instead Bromley are members of the Bromley Dementia Friendly Communities steering committee, and supported the Indoor Street Party, organised by our friends at MyTime Active at Crofton Halls in Orpington. The event saw over 130 individuals from the dementia community come together and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, live music and plenty of dancing! We were also joined by the new Mayor of Bromley, Mike Botting, who took the time to speak to guests and celebrate with us.

Guests at the party were treated to a Home Instead tote bag, stuffed full information about services in the area for those living with dementia and their loved ones.

Congratulations to all those involved in the event, it was a huge success, and everyone left with a smile on their face!
