Fully Managed Live-in Care
You may be aware there are two very different approaches to live-in care: introductory agencies and fully managed care providers.
Home Instead offers only fully managed live-in care. This means that our live-in carers are fully trained, employed and managed by us. We put them through the same rigorous assessment and training as we put our visiting carers through, and we expect the same high standards from them.
For comparison, an introductory agency will simply introduce you to the live-in carer and it’s then over to you to manage and pay them, and pay an ongoing monthly fee to the agency.
Understanding Your Care Needs
Prior to starting the process, we will spend time with you to understand your needs and preferences so we can draw up a detailed care plan and can select the right person to live with you in your home. We will introduce our proposed live-in care professional to you before they start, to make sure they will be a good match. We will bring him or her to your house on day one to go through daily routines and how you want things to be done. We will then manage the service from our local Basingstoke office and visit regularly to ensure that you remain happy with the carer and that the relationship is good.
What can a live-in carer do for me?
You can expect our care professionals to be working on agreed tasks at agreed times for a total of around eight to nine hours per day, and to be available for any emergencies outside of that time. They can help you in almost any way you need them to, which could for example include:
- Personal care assistance, such as showering, dressing and other personal tasks, all done whilst respecting your dignity and privacy;
- Housekeeping & home help, including light housework and preparing or helping you to prepare your meals;
- Providing all important companionship care at home – social interaction, mental stimulation and generally being a sensitive and supportive friend;
- Helping with your mobility, to help you get around, keep mobile and maintain your independence;
- Taking you out and running errands for you, whether that is to do the shopping, take you to appointments or just to get out of the house;
- Managing or helping you with your medication, ensuring that everything gets taken at the right times.
