Greyhound Rescue comes to our Memory Cafe!

Dotty the Dachshund, Crosby the Bassett Cross, and Harvey, Gracie, Snip and Goose the ex-racing Greyhounds came along to meet our group members in this weeks Memory Cafe.

At this weeks Memory Cafe, we welcomed Alain and his volunteers of the human and dog variety from Greyhound Rescue Wales. A record-breaking 21 people attended our group this week all excited to meet the therapy dogs, and they weren’t disappointed as they had 5 gorgeous pups to cuddle. Dotty the Dachshund, Crosby the Bassett Cross, and Harvey, Gracie, Snip and Goose the ex-racing Greyhounds really worked the crowds and their puppy-eyes got a lot of our members wanting to take them home with them!

You may have noticed that we often arrange for animals to come along to our Dementia specific sessions, and this is because they can have a huge positive impact on those living with the condition. These include helping to reduce stress and anxiety, encouraging engagement, and breaking down barriers to socialising in a new setting. We can see this first hand at our groups, as when we have furry friends visit us, the room lights up with happy faces and lots of chatting.

We want to say a massive thank you to Alain, and his team of volunteers for coming along to our group. They volunteer their time to help out with groups like ours, with all money raised being donated to the Greyhound Rescue Charity. We hope to welcome them back again in the future!

Our group is continuing to grow, and we are loving welcoming new faces. New members are always welcome, and there is no need to book any of our free sessions, just turn up on the day and get involved. If you have any questions about our group,  give Kate a call on (01792) 790890.
