Being a CAREGiver

CAREGiver of The Month

Congratulations to Karen Jones, our CAREGiver of the Month for June 2018!

Karen was nominated by the office team because of her helpful and proactive attitude. She has long companionship visits with one of her clients who lives in a nursing home, and Karen is always using her initiative to find products and comfort items that will benefit her and enable her to have good quality of life. Karen has worked with us for 1 year now and has excelled in her role. We are confident in her abilities and know that she will always go above and beyond. Well done Karen, we are proud to have you as part of our team!

- Well done Karen.

So what is it really like to be a CAREGiver for Home Instead?

Read one CAREGiver's experience below:

"As a CAREGiver working for Home Instead Weston, I wanted to share with you a typical days work, my experiences and why I love my job.

I visit clients in their own home, we keep the scheduling of CAREGivers as continuous as possible which is great because it means I really get to know my client, they get to know me and we can have a bond rather than just providing a service. I feel that the company follows up with clients and CAREGivers to make sure we are compatible and happy.

I really enjoy helping those who can't help themselves as much as they used to, and bringing a bit of joy into their lives. Making them smile and giving them a bit of companionship really makes me feel like I know I am doing the right thing in my career.

I hadn't done care before, it was a new challenge to me. I have spoken to a few of the other CAREGivers I work with and they have similarly not worked in care before. Many had come from retail, been semi retired or unemployed before starting this job. We also have some CAREGivers who study at college alongside carrying out visits to clients, so it really is for anyone of any age! Home Instead's comprehensive training and ongoing support means I have been able to approach visits to clients with confidence.

All you need to be successful at this job is commitment, patience, a caring nature and some free time. I would advise anyone who is considering becoming a CAREGiver to go for it! You'll be glad you did."

I have to commend you all for the care you have given my father and let you know that A is a god send. He looks forward to seeing her and we are comforted in the fact that your team are looking over him. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
