Being a CAREGiver

CAREGiver of The Month

Congratulations to Jo Lloyd our CAREGiver of the Month for February 2018

Jo was nominated because of her true dedication to her clients; she goes above and beyond to get them the help and support they require. A recent example being Jo staying with her client who has Dementia for more than 8 hours to ensure they got an ambulance and got to hospital.  Jo has also done really well with on call phone duties and has been riding her bike to her clients in all weathers, never once letting us down. She is professional and humble. Well done Jo, we are proud to have you as part of our team!

- Well done Jo.

So what is it really like to be a CAREGiver for Home Instead?

Read one CAREGiver's experience below:

"As a CAREGiver working for Home Instead Weston, I wanted to share with you a typical days work, my experiences and why I love my job.

I visit clients in their own home, we keep the scheduling of CAREGivers as continuous as possible which is great because it means I really get to know my client, they get to know me and we can have a bond rather than just providing a service. I feel that the company follows up with clients and CAREGivers to make sure we are compatible and happy.

I really enjoy helping those who can't help themselves as much as they used to, and bringing a bit of joy into their lives. Making them smile and giving them a bit of companionship really makes me feel like I know I am doing the right thing in my career.

I hadn't done care before, it was a new challenge to me. I have spoken to a few of the other CAREGivers I work with and they have similarly not worked in care before. Many had come from retail, been semi retired or unemployed before starting this job. We also have some CAREGivers who study at college alongside carrying out visits to clients, so it really is for anyone of any age! Home Instead's comprehensive training and ongoing support means I have been able to approach visits to clients with confidence.

All you need to be successful at this job is commitment, patience, a caring nature and some free time. I would advise anyone who is considering becoming a CAREGiver to go for it! You'll be glad you did."

"The domiciliary care I receive from Home Instead, is one million times better than any other domiciliary care provider I have had over the last couple of years. I just wanted to say I am very happy with the care I receive from my carer and Home Instead."
