Home Instead Westminster awarded an Outstanding rating by the CQC.

Home Instead Senior Care impressed the CQC inspectors with their exceptionally high standard of person-centred care and support. Not just for the care they provide to their clients, but for the wider community and those living with dementia.

Care visits are a minimum of two hours and this provides the opportunity to develop extremely positive and caring relationships. Supporting clients to be active, eat well and enjoy life was hugely important to every member of the team which is achieved by understanding their client’s past accomplishments and their unique talents and skills.

Inspectors from the CQC praised the ‘kindness and compassion’ of the caregivers, and noted that the care provided wasn’t just about the basic day to day requirements.

Stories about shared interests between clients and caregivers impressed the CQC, they heard of how caregivers encourage involvement in meaningful activities to promote their wellbeing such as cycling, visits to local attractions, exercise and celebrating special occasions.

The CQC report contains glowing praise from clients, relatives and friends. A friend of one client said: “We think all the caregivers are superb, understanding and compassionate. They have helped my friend to stay at home, close to friends, our church and the local places that matter’.

The CQC could see that the management team promoted a caring philosophy which staff described as inspirational. One of the caregivers told inspectors: “It is such an honour and a privilege to be able to spend time with the people we support and really get to know them. In this job I feel like I am doing something to make a person’s day happier”

Home Instead also specialises in caring for those living with dementia, and Fred who is on the steering committee for the Westminster Dementia Action Alliance and his team work closely within the local community. They have so far given free training sessions to over 500 people to help them understand more about the signs and symptoms of dementia. 

He said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have been rated outstanding. I always wanted to deliver high quality care with trust and respect and would like to thank all my wonderful team for making it possible.

“We truly care for our clients, by understanding their needs, interests, likes and dislikes we are able to support and encourage them to lead fulfilling lives.”

Only two per cent of adult social care providers have been rated “Outstanding” since the introduction of CQC’s new Ofsted-style approach to inspection and regulation in 2015.
