Our Care Professionals

Our Care Professionals - the 'heart' of our service!

Our wonderful Care Professionals are specially selected on the basis of their personalities – kindness, empathy, reliability and a genuine interest in other people are all key attributes that we look for.

After completing an initial 3 days of award winning training with Anne Hine, our Training & Support Manager, to ensure that they have the skills they need, they are hand-picked for each of our clients. We match them based on interests and background to ensure that quality relationships can be built.

Our Care Professionals receive ongoing specialist training, mentoring and support to ensure that they always deliver the very best care. They don’t wear uniforms – just a Home Instead ID badge – and a lovely smile!

If you would like one of our team to help you or a loved one, or if you would like to find out about joining the team, please get in touch with us on 01822 258292 or email [email protected].

In home elderly care home caregiver companionship flexible care dementia care

Lynn Roddy - Owner

My name is Lynn, and I am the Director of the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead. I live in Tavistock, Devon, with my husband, daughter and son.

I set up Home Instead 4 years ago…..little did I know a pandemic would be part of this journey. After a 16 year career as an Army officer, I gave back to my children finally being able to be there for the school run at both ends of the day. My mum a fiercely independent lady was becoming more frail and we helped her to move to Devon. After a diagnosis of dementia, I found it really difficult to find companionship based support and care for mum to help me juggle young children and a parent who needed considerable support. Mum had been a proud nurse and on her passing, I used my inheritance to set up Home Instead. What a journey it has been! To achieve an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (only 3% of care providers achieve this) has been testament to the hard work and determination of all of the team. The last couple of years has been incredibly challenging but we have been there for the community day in day out. My serving ethos can continue with Home Instead and I hope mum would be proud.

outstanding home care manager

Sandie Oldfield - Head of Client Experience

My name is Sandie and I am the Registered Manager at Tavistock and Tamar Valley Home Instead office. I live in the beautiful town of Tavistock with my husband Mark and our two teenage daughters, we have an Irish Setter dog and Maine Coon cat.

My career has primarily been in banking, starting as a bank clerk with Barclays at 16, progressing to managerial positions within the Santander group. On moving to Tavistock in 2009, my husband and I wanted to share the care of our two young daughters, so I worked as an evening care worker to dovetail with his work. I developed a passion for looking after people in their own homes and started a small domiciliary company, wanting to improve my client’s quality of life and truly make a difference, this is how I met Lynn and her Mum Enid. Having started this journey from the beginning with Lynn, I am so proud that we have built an amazing team with values that focus on our mission to ‘change the face of ageing’.

I have two older daughters and four grandchildren and my spare time goes into dog walks on the moors, planning get togethers, days out, holidays, on-line quizzes and murder mysteries. I also love live music events and getting on the dance floor.

Heather Searle - Office Manager

Hi, I’m Heather and I am the Office Manager at the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead. I moved to Tavistock in 2007 with my husband and son. Since then we have acquired a Miniature Schnauzer called Bertie and are often to be found out and about on Dartmoor with him.

I am a member of two book clubs and enjoy hearing others’ interpretations of stories we have all read.

Sam Biddlecombe - On Call Manager and Scheduler

My name is Sam and I'm the On Call Manager and Scheduler.

I was born and raised on the Isle of Wight with my sister and twin brother. When I left school I took up a 3 year course at college for landscape gardening which I really enjoyed doing and being outdoors. Then I worked for 2 Harvester restaurants as part of the management team in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. I moved back to the Isle of Wight and that's when I came across care, I worked for 2 care companies but I had to stop after my motorbike accident back in 2015. When I was able to go back to work, I then moved back to Hertfordshire and started to work for Home Instead in Hemel Hempstead as a care coordinator, then moved to Okehampton.

I have worked for the Tavistock office coming up 3 years now and really enjoy working with the team in the office and working with the Care Professionals. Care is a job that I enjoy doing to help and support anyone who needs people like us and find the job very rewarding. I speak to our clients and Care Professionals everyday, asking how there day has been and lots more.

The training and support that I got from Home Instead has been amazing, it's like being part of a big family where you help and support each other.

Marketing Executive and Care Professional

Carys Aldridge - Marketing Executive and Care Professional

After a number of years away in Leicester for university, living in London working in the fashion industry as a womenswear pattern cutter and designer. Then attempting to travel as a digital nomad just before Covid hit, I am now finally back in my hometown, Tavistock! The best part about being home is the countryside, having the moors just on my doorstop is bliss. I like going on adventure walks with my chocolate Labrador, enjoy a fruity gin and am obsessed with skincare!

I am over the moon to be working alongside Home Instead as their Marketing Executive and Care Professional. I can't wait to put my marketing knowledge into play and I hope to bring a new flare to the social side of the business promoting all things local. With all the training that we have here I'm excited to build up my skills, inhale all the knowledge and work towards my Care Certificate. I'm really excited to be working closely with our clients, Care Professionals and building new relationships with local businesses.

Field Support Career

Suraiya Artes -Care Professional and Field Support

A central part of me has always been caring for and looking after others, be it family members or friends or people and animals that I don’t know well. After having worked in businesses for nearly 3 decades, I felt the need to realign my career to a profession that I would find more satisfying. The pandemic provided the stimulus to take a concrete step towards this, and I joined Home Instead in mid 2020, hoping to be able to help out in any way in the community here during the time that I was unable to travel home.

Home for me is India and I have grown up and spent most of my life there, other than a couple of years working in Germany, when my interest in the health professions was first triggered. After returning to India, I continued to work in a support role in the pharma industry for a while and enjoyed and challenged myself learning more about the world of health and healing. I’ve enjoyed growing in my role with Home Instead, working within varied client and colleague teams, and have been grateful for the opportunities offered as well as for the lovely people I’ve gotten to know.

My husband and I have been living in the UK since 2014, when he took up the assignment to lead the Department of Vision Sciences at Plymouth University.

Theo - Honourary Home Instead Employee

Hello my name is Theo (short for Theodore Hugo Skywalker Stink) and I work at Home Instead .

I pop into the office to steal all the biscuits from the wonderful Care Professionals who work here. I love to go out and about running with Lynn, meeting local people and telling them about the amazing work that our team does to help older people in their own homes. If you see us around please come and say hello.

I am a Springador (there is a little bit of springer spaniel in the line somewhere) so I love Dartmoor because I have lots of opportunities to get wet and muddy, an easy thing to do in Tavistock.
