Our CAREGivers - the 'heart' of our service!
Our wonderful CAREGivers are specially selected on the basis of their personalities – kindness, empathy, reliability and a genuine interest in other people are all key attributes that we look for.
After completing an initial 3 days of award winning training with Tracey, our Training & Support Manager, to ensure that they have the skills they need, they are hand-picked for each of our clients. We match them based on interests and background to ensure that quality relationships can be built.
Our CAREGivers receive ongoing specialist training, mentoring and support to ensure that they always deliver the very best care. They don’t wear uniforms – just a Home Instead ID badge – and a lovely smile!
If you would like one of our team to help you or a loved one, or if you would like to find out about joining the team, please get in touch with us on 01822 258292 or email [email protected].
Sandie Oldfield - Head of Client Experience
My name is Sandie and I am the Registered Manager at Tavistock and Tamar Valley Home Instead office. I live in the beautiful town of Tavistock with my husband Mark and our two teenage daughters, we have an Irish Setter dog and Maine Coon cat.
My career has primarily been in banking, starting as a bank clerk with Barclays at 16, progressing to managerial positions within the Santander group. On moving to Tavistock in 2009, my husband and I wanted to share the care of our two young daughters, so I worked as an evening care worker to dovetail with his work. I developed a passion for looking after people in their own homes and started a small domiciliary company, wanting to improve my client’s quality of life and truly make a difference, this is how I met Lynn and her Mum Enid. Having started this journey from the beginning with Lynn, I am so proud that we have built an amazing team with values that focus on our mission to ‘change the face of ageing’.
I have two older daughters and four grandchildren and my spare time goes into dog walks on the moors, planning get togethers, days out, holidays, on-line quizzes and murder mysteries. I also love live music events and getting on the dance floor.
Helen Lawrence - Senior CAREGiver
My name is Helen. I live in Bude with my husband Andy and my 13-year-old son Hayden. We moved to Cornwall in 2008 when our son was 6 months old.
I was born and bred in West London to Irish parents and had many different careers from lifeguard, sales rep, bookkeeper, pub landlady (11 years), primary school/sixth form TA. I joined Home Instead 2 years ago and have enjoyed the challenge so far. I am currently taking on more training and responsibility and looking forward to promoting and growing the Bude area.
Tracey Young - Training Manager
My name is Tracey Young. I have been with Home Instead Tavistock & Tamar Valley since August of 2019, first as one of our valued domiciliary CAREGivers, then becoming more involved with recruitment and training.
I am passionate about living life to the full and enabling our clients to do this in the safety and comfort of their own homes is incredibly rewarding. I thoroughly enjoy my present role, of training our CAREGivers, so they are empowered to support our clients in the best way possible. We are passionate about making a difference in each and every life that we come across, it’s great to be working in care.
When I’m not working you will find me outdoors somewhere off the beaten track - whenever possible!
Sam Biddlecomble - Scheduler
My name is Sam Biddlecombe and I have lived in Sampford Courtenay for 2 years. I have been working for Home Instead for about 4 years, firstly in the Hemel Hempstead office, and now in Tavistock. I do all the scheduling for the Tavistock office, meeting both the needs of our clients and CAREGivers.
I have worked with a variety of organisations in hospitality, my last role was as an assistant manager for Harvester. I started working in care after caring for a dear friend while I was on the Isle of Wright, and have since wanted to continue in care because I love helping people. I enjoy working in the Tavistock office making sure clients and CAREGivers have what they need, hearing about their past, and what they like to do.
I was born on the Isle of Wight with my sister and twin brother. I love being outdoors and going out for long walks with my partner and family.
Jackie May - Client Services Coordinator
My name is Jackie. I am the Client Services Coordinator for Home Instead Tavistock and Tamar Valley. I have worked in both care and mental health services for many years and love working with the community and making a difference to someone’s life.
I was born and brought up in Plymouth, Devon and love the idea that I can visit the moors and walk along the beautiful coastline. Walking across the moors and blowing the cobwebs away is my favourite pastime, as well as cycling and swimming (when it’s warmer). My aim is to compete in a Triathlon in the Autumn (I’m not prepared to say which Autumn though).
I have 3 grown up daughters and 6 grandchildren who call me 'Crazy Nana'! Being a Nana is the most important role I’ve played and it brings so much joy to my life.
Heather Searle - Office Manager
Hi, I’m Heather and I am the Office Manager at the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead. I moved to Tavistock in 2007 with my husband and son. Since then we have acquired a Miniature Schnauzer called Bertie and are often to be found out and about on Dartmoor with him.
After leaving teaching when I had my son, I took on a range of voluntary roles at his school, local charities and gardens. I enjoy gardening very much and completed some RHS qualifications although you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the state of my garden. I enjoy exercising, walking and running with Bertie. I am a member of two book clubs and enjoy hearing others’ interpretations of stories we have all read.
Hayley Russell - CAREGiver Experience Manager
My name is Hayley and I am Head of CAREGiver Experience for the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead.
I have lived in the Tamar Valley for most of my life. I live with my husband, our grown up daughter and our teenage son. I have worked in the care sector since 2004 and have a real passion for providing care in the community. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family, walk my dogs, or relax with a coffee and a good book.
Sean Lee - CAREGiver and Mentor
My name is Sean and I am a CAREGiver and Mentor for Home Instead.
For the majority of my working life I had been a photographer but sadly I had a serious accident and when I was fully recovered everything was basically digital so I had to have a change of career. I ran a large youth club in Liverpool. I have a degree in Health and Social Care and next year I hope to become a fully qualified counsellor leading on to be a Psychotherapist too. I have worked for Home Instead for a year and a half now and have had the most amazing time. The job is so fulfilling and rewarding knowing you're making such a difference to people's lives and their families too, it has been such a revelation as I have never done care work before.
I was born and bred in Manchester and lived in Liverpool for twenty nine years. I moved down south two years ago and now I live in Harrowbarrow, Cornwall, with my partner and two step children. I have a twenty-year-old daughter who is doing a music scholarship at Newcastle University. In my spare time I go to the gym, go for long walks and being an avid music lover I go to as many concerts as possible.
Lynn Roddy - Owner
My name is Lynn, and I am the Director of the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead. I live in Tavistock, Devon, with my husband, daughter and son.
After a 16 year career as an Army officer in the Royal Signals, I moved to Devon back in 2011, with my husband Mike, then a Royal Marine and our 2 children. Having worked whilst the children were very small, I took the opportunity to be around for the children in their primary school years. With a serving heart, I immersed myself in voluntary activities, running the PA, managing sports teams and leading parenting courses for the local community. My mum moved down to Tavistock and I was able to be an integral part of her care. I met some amazing people who helped care for mum in her Care Home and I am passionate that this same level of care is available to enable people to remain in their homes.
In my spare time, I can be found running on Dartmoor with the dog, trying to keep up in my lane at the swimming pool, managing the kids teams for cricket and hockey and patchworking and crafting.
If you are interested in enquiring about our services, either for yourself, a family member or a friend, please call us on 01822 258292. We would be delighted to talk to you about how we can help.
Theo - Honourary Home Instead Employee
Hello my name is Theo (short for Theodore Hugo Skywalker Stink) and I work at Home Instead .
I pop into the office to steal all the biscuits from the wonderful CAREGivers who work here. I love to go out and about running with Lynn, meeting local people and telling them about the amazing work that our team does to help older people in their own homes. If you see us around please come and say hello.
I am a Springador (there is a little bit of springer spaniel in the line somewhere) so I love Dartmoor because I have lots of opportunities to get wet and muddy, an easy thing to do in Tavistock.
