Our CAREGivers - the 'heart' of our service!
Our wonderful CAREGivers are specially selected on the basis of their personalities – kindness, empathy, reliability and a genuine interest in other people are all key attributes that we look for.
After completing an initial 3 days of award winning training with Sandie, our Care Manager, to ensure that they have the skills they need, they are hand-picked for each of our clients. We match them based on interests and background to ensure that quality relationships can be built.
Our CAREGivers receive ongoing specialist training, mentoring and support to ensure that they always deliver the very best care. They don’t wear uniforms – just a Home Instead ID badge – and a lovely smile!
If you would like one of our team to help you or a loved one, or if you would like to find out about joining the team, please get in touch with us on 01822 258292 or email email@example.com.
Lynn Roddy - Owner
My name is Lynn, and I am the Director of the Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead. I live in Tavistock, Devon, with my husband, daughter and son.
After a 16 year career as an Army officer in the Royal Signals, I moved to Devon back in 2011, with my husband Mike, then a Royal Marine and our 2 children. Having worked whilst the children were very small, I took the opportunity to be around for the children in their primary school years. With a serving heart, I immersed herself in voluntary activities, running the PA, managing sports teams and leading parenting courses for the local community. My mum moved down to Tavistock and I was able to be an integral part of her care. I met some amazing people who helped care for mum in her Care Home and I am passionate that this same level of care is available to enable people to remain in their homes.
In my spare time, I can be found running on Dartmoor with the dog, trying to keep up in my lane at the swimming pool, managing the kids teams for cricket and hockey and patchworking and crafting.
If you are interested in enquiring about our services, either for yourself, a family member or a friend, please call us on 01822 258292. We would be delighted to talk to you about how we can help.
Sandra Oldfield - Care Manager
I am called Sandie, I am the Registered Care Manager for Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead.
Since moving to Tavistock in 2008, with my husband and 2 younger daughters, I have immersed myself in the care sector. After working for a local care company for a couple of years and taking my NVQ3
in Adult Health and Social Care, I wanted to provide a more bespoke and personalised service. I started my own business in 2011 and very quickly expanded into a team of 5 carers. We shared the same passion to make a difference, creating and sharing memories, bringing some sunshine to our Clients' days. I was a lead member of the care team who looked after Lynn's mum, often taking her for lunch to her favourite cafe.
Prior to moving to Tavistock my career centred around financial services, starting at aged 16 as a cashier I worked my way up to a Bank Manager position, gaining valuable experience managing staff, sales and marketing.
My hobbies are mainly built around my family, including our Irish Setter and Maine Coon cat. Whenever we can, we go out walking on Dartmoor, visiting local beaches and country parks, picnicking with our dog. I enjoy puzzles, crosswords and murder mystery games.
Heather Searle - Staff Coordinator
I moved to Tavistock from Torbay in 2007 with my husband and young son. I was a Primary School teacher for 11 years prior to having my family.
As Staff Coordinator, I am the main point of contact for all the staff administration and for keeping the show on the road!
Born and bred in Devon I love to explore the countryside, particularly Dartmoor with my family and Bertie, our Miniature Schnauzer. I also enjoy gardening and reading and lead a local book group.
Allison Hatcher - Recruiter
My name is Alli and I am the Recruiter at Tavistock and Tamar Valley branch of Home Instead.
I am a Tavistock girl, now living in the Tamar Valley, am happily married with two lovely grown up children who are currently undertaking their degrees.
In my previous career, I was an early years’ teacher and before that a bank clerk. In my spare time I like walking, cycling, gardening and attending music festivals in my caravan.
I was drawn to Home Instead for their caring ethos towards their clients, where spending time with them is more important than rushing off. I whole heartedly support the notion of enabling clients to remain as independent as possible in their own home, including outings within the local community.
I am involved in the whole process of recruiting our lovely CAREGivers. I particularly focus on kind, friendly and trustworthy people; those who I feel will care and build reliable, trustworthy relationships with our clients. Giving families peace of mind that their loved ones are being well looked after is our focus. As a team, we ensure that all of our CAREGivers are trained and compassionate about caring and listening to clients’ individual needs.
Theo - Honourary Home Instead Employee
Hello my name is Theo (short for Theodore Hugo Skywalker Stink) and I work at Home Instead Senior Care.
I pop into the office to steal all the biscuits from the wonderful CAREGivers who work here. I love to go out and about running with Lynn, meeting local people and telling them about the amazing work that our team does to help older people in their own homes. If you see us around please come and say hello.
I am a Springador (there is a little bit of springer spaniel in the line somewhere) so I love Dartmoor because I have lots of opportunities to get wet and muddy, an easy thing to do in Tavistock.
