Meet the team

Alan in new Care at Home venture

Alan Barr - Owner

Hi I am Alan, I have spent the last 20 years working in the world of finance for various corporate entities, ranging from the manufacture of large dump trucks to selling washing machines in the care sector and in between these two ventures I helped run the second largest Ports group in the UK and was also Managing Director of Glasgow Airport for a while.

Due to a change in personal circumstances and also being touched by the experience of my late mother’s dementia, I decided to set up Home Instead Senior Care South Lanarkshire. I am now lucky enough to be running my own business that will make a difference to people’s lives in my home town and across the South Lanarkshire region. I am also lucky enough to have my oldest son Alistair and my daughter Sophie helping and hopefully together we can help change the face of ageing in South Lanarkshire.

Alistair Barr - Scheduler

Hi, I am Alistair and I helped my dad set up the Home Instead South Lanarkshire business.

I help him and Cath in the business by providing back office support, including social media, website and keeping all the finances up to date. I also schedule all the client visits and allocate their favourite CAREGiver’s to them.

When I am not working hard I enjoy going out with my friends, listening to music and playing my guitar.

Care Assistant happy at work

Sophie Barr - Care Admin. Assistant

Hi I am Sophie and I work part-time at Home Instead South Lanarkshire along with my brother and dad.

In my spare time I like shopping, going to the gym and out for walks with Jack my Labrador. I also help my dad around the house and looking after my brothers.

At Home Instead I help Cath manage how the business delivers a good quality care service to our clients and also make sure we are looking after our CAREGivers so as they enjoy their work with Home Instead. This involves scheduling supervisions and client support visits, catch up over a coffee with both our clients and CAREGivers and a everything else to make sure Cath is organised.

Care Manager looking after compliance

Catherine Rea - Care Manager

Hi, I am Cath Rea and I am the Care Manager at Home Instead South Lanarkshire.

I have worked in the Care Sector for nearly 30 years in various positions both in the community and in care homes. I joined Home Instead in July 2018 as I had heard about this local company providing a different type and quality of care in South Lanarkshire and thought “I want to work there” and I am.

It’s my job to work with our CAREGivers to make sure we deliver first class quality care to all our clients in their own homes. It is honestly a pleasure knowing that I am helping our clients continue to live in the comfort of their own home's, in a safe and familiar environment and it’s all made possible through the support of our fantastic CAREGivers.

Training Manager at her desk

Gillian Coltart - Recruitment & Training Manager

I’m Gill and I joined Home Instead South Lanarkshire as Recruitment & Training Manager in January 2018.

I have worked in the care sector in the early part of my career and then took 10 years out to work in the catering sector before returning to care at Auchlochan Retirement Village, in South Lanarkshire.

I am responsible for recruiting our CAREGivers and providing training to them to get them prepared for their life as a Home Instead CAREGiver. It’s important that we make sure they understand the high standards that we require at Home Instead as we pride ourselves in the quality of our CAREGivers.

I am often out and about in the local community speaking to people and generally networking to find the next group of CAREGivers to be trained. I have an SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care and I sometimes help out with client visits when we are busy, which keeps my hand in with delivering care. I enjoy my visits to our client’s homes as everyone of them are a joy to work with.

Office Dog

Jack - The Office Dog

Woof, I am Jack and as you may have noticed I am a yellow Labrador.

After a rigorous selection process and a difficult PVG disclosure process I am now a proud employee of Home Instead South Lanarkshire.

I work part-time in the business generally making a nuisance of myself and getting loads of attention because I am gorgeous!!

I am available if anyone would like to take me for walks. I also do personal appearances and photographs for a small fee and hourly rate is 10 Gravy Bones or 2 chews.

When I am not working I love running around the garden or on cold winter night lying by the fire.
