Are you entitled to Attendance Allowance ?

Are you entitled to Attendance Allowance ?

Attendance Allowance

What is Attendance Allowance ?

Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people over 65 and have a physical or mental disability which means they need help with personal care or supervision. It is a tax free benefit and is not means tested, so you can apply for it regardless of how much income or savings you have.

How Much can you receive from Attendance Allowance ?

These are weekly payments and the amount you receive depends on the help you need. You either get

  1. £55.65 per week if you need help throughout the day or night
  2. £83.10 per week if you need help throughout both day and night

These amounts apply from April 2017 to April 2018

How do you know if you may qualify ?

  • Are you 65 or over
  • Could you benefit from help with Personal Care

                      - Getting washed or dressed

                      - Supervision to keep you safe during the night

  • Have you any type of disability or illness

                      - Dementia or mental Illness

                      - Sight or hearing impairment

What can I spend my allowance on ?

You do not have to spend your Attendance Allowance on care – it is up to you how you use your attendance allowance. Attendance Allowance is designed to help you stay independent in your own home. You do not actually have to receive help from a carer, as Attendance Allowance is based on the help you need and not the help you actually receive.
