Testimonials

We have recently transferred to Home Instead and we couldn't be more pleased with the service we are receiving. It has taken away a lot of our anxiety that we previously had. We have been very impressed with the professional manner by which the agency is managed and the quality of the CAREGivers employed. The detail and level of attention paid to our needs is exemplary. ’’

Miss W - Daughter of Client

To all at Home Instead, We just wanted to say a huge thank you for supporting our dad during the last few months. You have all been so caring, kind and patient with him and he has really appreciated your help.

Mrs R - Daughter of Client

Just a quick note to thank you and your team for the excellent night time care that you gave to my Aunt during the last weeks of her life. We are very grateful for your professionalism and the patience shown by your staff.

Mrs S - Client

Sarah has a friendly and compassionate disposition. She listens to what I say and does her best to make me comfortable. Sarah is gentle and quietly spoken with a ready smile and sense of humour. She is competent in doing the tasks required for my care. Sarah shows respect for my home and my family and is never obtrusive. The family dogs Rolo and Zippy really like her too. In summary Sarah is an outstanding Carer in all aspects and fully deserving of the ‘CAREGiver of the Year’

Mrs H - Client's daughter

Oh Holly, thank you! You can’t imagine how good this makes me feel …. What a shame Mum doesn’t remember any of it afterwards because I knew she would chuckle for days!

I just knew when I first met Hazel that she was ‘the one’. Don’t ask me how, or why, but I knew. Even though Mum was a bag of nerves and talked non-stop whilst we were all there I knew that on a one-to-one basis they would get on like a house on fire. Please give Hazel the biggest hug from me.

So happy to have found you all and so happy that you managed to get such a perfect fit.

Mrs R - Client's daughter

Thank you, & your staff, for your help with my father. It has made a big difference to my father's life & has helped me & my sister out greatly, as we are able to spend more quality time with him, rather than cleaning constantly. It has given my father more interests as he talks to me fondly about Angela & Suzanne. It is just a shame that we had not managed to persuade him earlier, which he now regrets himself.

Mrs C - Client

Bernie always arrives with a smile on her face. Always willing to help with the little jobs. Makes a very nice lunch.

Mrs D - Client's wife

I am unable to nominate just one CAREGiver, because they both showed their lovely caring abilities excellently. Christine was homely and Janie - gently brisk, a lovely combination and both CAREGivers appreciated by both Henry and myself.

Mrs R - Client's mother

On behalf of Gary and myself, I would like to thank you all, especially Sharon, Keri and Sarah who did a wonderful job, also Caroline for all of her help. The care they provided for mum was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble and it was a relief for us to know she was very well looked after.

I would not hesitate in recommending Home Instead to anyone who asks me. Once again thank you very much.

Mrs L - Client's husband

Steve had a visit from a Physiotherapist who has known him over the last 10 years to do a review generally and to give advice on bed positioning aids. At one time, she felt that his overall physical condition, as his voluntary movements deteriorated, would have to be managed by a Baclofen implant - a surgical procedure to permanently deliver medication.

She was therefore most pleased and complementary to discover how well this has been managed by the diligent and reliable maintenance of his physio exercises through the daily efforts of our care team.

I have spoken to all of the individuals who make up Steve's team, conveying our thanks, but thought you would appreciate this news. As the Physiotherapist said, it has saved the NHS the cost of providing and maintaining the medical procedure and also, whilst saving Steve from having to undergo this kind of unpleasantness, has kept him from further physical decline.

With our thanks to all of the Shrewsbury Home Instead team.

Carol not only told me when my mum had hurt her wrist, but had also made a temporary support from a tubigrip to protect it. Carol brings a wealth of experience to her role.

Caroline is always friendly and happy and makes me enjoy things like swimming, that I wouldn't normally enjoy without her. She has not just done what she's paid to do, she has also been a good friend to me.

Hi Rachael, I would like to thank you and the fantastic team who have cared for my aunt. I will personally miss the girls coming in, nothing was too much trouble for any of them and as you know, I’m not the easiest person to please. Thank you so very much and keep up the great work you do.

All the very best for the future of Home Instead.

Ms G – Client’s niece

Mrs L – Client’s husband

Although you are already aware of how pleased and impressed Steve and I were with Home Instead’s recent emergency package of care that Steve received recently, I wanted to share a note that can be shared with all of the staff we met. The standard of care we observed was quite excellent; positive, supportive. Vital training meant that everyone who subsequently came, were confident of the skills and demands around Steve’s care. Steve enjoyed meeting all of the Carers-Kirsty and Debbie’s greater involvement, meant that they got to know each other well in a very short time. It is rare for him to voice his feelings about individuals, so for me, this was a real measure of their achievement, that he actually said how much he liked and would miss them.

So thank you all very much indeed. It was really good, and not a little amazing, to find that the promises in your publicity brochures actually matched our experience completely.

We shall recommend Home instead whenever we get the chance!

Best Wishes

First of all, a few words to express my appreciation for your unhesitant willingness to take on the extra care package for Steve at short notice indeed and the subsequently similar attitude of so many of your staff which made it happen so apparently easily. I was amazed.

Everything went very smoothly at home for Steve, in fact, he seems to have quite enjoyed the experience! Thank you all so much for your support. The rest of the family were able to be together at an important time, with confidence and we had never expected this to be possible at all.

With my best wishes,

Lynn has been one of Sheila’s regular carers since September 2013. Lynn has been christened as “Mrs Meerkat” by Sheila. Sheila has a love of meerkats and Lynn has given her 2 meerkat cuddly toys – one known as Mr Gorbachev. Both are her pride and joy. She has a photo of her with them, taken by Lynn on her fridge. Lynn made a wonderful personalised Xmas card for family members and other carers with Sheila dressed in Xmas hat and looking very festive – glass of wine in hand! Lynn is always patient, calm has a good sense of humour and is very kind.

When Sheila was expecting an old work colleague, who she had not seen for several years to call on her one afternoon, Lynn came in her own time to welcome her and serve afternoon tea! I was working on this particular day and was very grateful to Lynn. She has a flair for crosswords and together they attempt them with varying success! When Sheila had problems with her telephone, Lynn was invaluable in sorting the problem out. I know that on several occasions when Sheila has mentioned places or events or people in her life, Lynn has researched them via the internet and showed Sheila any up to date information.

She has made a big impact on Sheila’s and the immediate family members’ life. Sheila is very fond of her and always looks forward to seeing her.

Debbie has been my most dedicated Carer for over a year – 3 times a week. Debbie cycles to work, manages most days to arrive on time – despite the weather and other things like flat tyres etc, in a cheerful mood, serves my lunch and does all that is necessary, in a cheerful, happy mood, leaving me feeling that I’m truly blessed and comfortable with myself. On one occasion, my wedding ring fell off and couldn’t be found. To cut a long story short – it turned up, frozen to a bag of peas in the freezer, but Debs had a look of concern for me that was definitely over and above and was a great comfort to me. It was missing for 3 weeks, so there was great rejoicing then when found.

Jennifer has been caring for my wife since September 2015. My wife has created a good bond with Jennifer, who is flexible, trustworthy, friendly, considerate and caring. Jennifer often not only cares for my wife, but also for me! She has cooked meals for us to save me doing so on my return from a day out – and much better than my cooking! She irons for me when she is asked or notices herself. She washes up if there are dirty/used plates etc. She also does some local shopping when necessary. I was really sorry to lose her when I had to move to a different agency that could provide the full care package. This happened despite my efforts to avoid it and I wasn’t pleased or impressed by the manner in which it happened.

If problems arise with the new agency, my first point of call will be Home Instead, specifically because of my trust in Jennifer.

Mrs O – Fellow CAREGiver

Deb is such an honest and diligent person and her cheerful personality never fails to make me, but more importantly her Clients, happier for being in her company. Deb can be loud, boisterous (which is what we love about her), but she is always professional when she needs to be and amends her character to suit whichever Client she is working with and she always tries to take away the Client’s feeling of drudgery of their routine. Deb is always inquisitive and endeavours to understand the reasoning behind any actions and she has often been a great support to me, especially when dealing with moving and handling situations. I think one of the most amazing things about Deb, is the amount of miles she actually cycles, in rain, snow, wind and hail, to get to her Clients to give them excellent care. I don’t think I could do that!

Lynn is one of the kindest people I know, always putting others before herself, even when she was quite poorly not so long ago, she hardly took any time off work so as not to let her clients or her team down.

She has all the qualities a CAREGiver should have and a bucket load more!!

I could give many examples of her kindness, but here are just a few:

When one of our elderly ladies suffered a power cut in the winter, Lynn came round with flasks of hot soup and coffee, hot water bottles and lamps. One of our Clients had all her trousers turned up with safety pins, so Lynn took them home to hem them for her, again in her own time. She will always ensure our Clients never run short of anything, often popping to do their shopping before she visits. She takes her own books of interest to share with the Clients.

As well as caring very much about all her Clients, she also cares about the other members of her team, she will always take on extra shifts when needed, often at short notice and if she thinks anyone is doing too much, she will volunteer to cover.

She is a lovely lady and Home Instead is very lucky to have her.

Mrs S – Client’s mother

In my mother’s words “Deb is wonderful and just understands what I need in every way”. Deb clearly possesses a tireless dedication to her work and gets on with what’s needed in an organised, energetic way. She undertakes so many extra practical tasks beyond what’s expected of her. She displays a natural caring ability, anticipating what’s required with a capacity to meet diverse changeable needs. Deb is compassionate, respectful and truly listens to what my mother tells her. Despite my mum’s previous bad care experiences, Deb has managed to develop a trusting relationship with her, exceeding all expectations, giving words of reassurance and encouragement whenever needed. Above all, Deb puts more than a smile on mum’s face – she uses her great sense of humour to good effect and the sound of laughter fills the house! As the saying goes – laughter is the best medicine, and Deb gives mum plenty of doses! This makes a significant difference to how mum feels which is so important when housebound. We are lucky to have Deb as mum’s CAREGiver and she deserves an award for all her biking to calls in all weathers alone!

I know Catherine as a Carer and companion. We get on very well together and I think she enjoys her visits to me. She is always bright and cheerful and on time. I don’t know if any of this is useful and I would not want any other Carer.

Mrs R – Client

Mrs O – fellow CAREGiver

In the time I have spent working for Home Instead, I have been lucky enough to work along-side some wonderful CAREGivers, all of who have the potential to be nominated “CAREGiver of the year” for providing their quality of service and commitment to patient care. However, I would specifically like to acknowledge the significant contributions to a Client’s care made by Sue. Her dedication to Ms S is evident and she speaks of her with such compassion. She continually encourages and supports Ms S to enable her to continue living independently in her own home. Sue has initiated ways in which to improve Ms S’s personal hygiene in a kind and thoughtful manner and I am aware that she has started work early on numerous occasions to covertly be with her Client when she carries out her personal care. Sue is thoughtful and inspiring and certainly has the “human touch”. She always exhibits a professional persona and it is a real pleasure to be working along-side her.

Mrs O – fellow CAREGiver

Mrs P – Client’s daughter

Sue has been caring for my mother since September 2013. Over the past months, Mum’s needs have increased quite considerably. Initially Sue helped Mum with dressing and washing and helped her with her breakfast and reminded her about her pills, but Mum was reasonably mobile and on good days could carry out many tasks herself. But over the past few months, Mum’s needs have increased considerably. Now she always needs help in dressing and washing and has her breakfast made every day, as well as sandwiches prepared for tea. And her very limited mobility and dexterity has meant that Sue is now required to help her at lunchtime. Sue also puts on Mum’s washing, makes her bed and checks her medication.

These tasks may seem mundane, but the way in which Sue carries out these tasks is anything but. Mum’s early stage dementia is increasing, but Sue unfailingly encourages Mum to talk and Mum really appreciates the company and the conversations. When Mum doesn’t want to get up from bed, Sue encourages her. When Mum doesn’t want to eat breakfast, Sue patiently prepares and cajoles her into “just a little bit” which almost always results in Mum eating all her breakfast. When Mum is feeling too poorly for a shower, Sue will wash her feet and legs and moisturise them, because she knows that Mum finds this particularly enjoyable. She not only dresses Mum, but takes time to help Mum choose what she would like to wear, knowing that Mum will never wear anything that is even slightly stained or doesn’t match. Sue has called the district nurse on Mum’s behalf when her legs have been particularly bothersome. Sue encourages Mum to choose her meals, even though she knows that Mum will probably have forgotten what she has chosen by lunch or teatime. She writes lists for other careers that Mum has on the weekends, so that they know exactly what mum likes or needs.

Whilst Sue is with Mum, nothing is too much trouble. Mum is very fond of her and remembers her visits and her talks and looks forward to her next visit.

For me, Sue’s care of Mum has been a lifting of the load. I have someone I can trust with Mum’s care at all times, who treats Mum as if she is a well-loved and special person, who brought her back a tea towel from her holiday and gave her a card and an egg at Easter. Sue’s care of Mum far surpasses my expectations.

I got in contact with my social worker to help me get Home Instead. I found them on the internet myself. My referral was accepted and I found Sue excellent. Words cannot express my gratitude to the wonderful service I receive. Her work is carried out very professionally and only too glad to help at all times whether being Personal Care, preparing meals for me and to cook. Her attention to detail is impeccable. She is the best. We think a lot of her and enjoy her company.

We chose Home Instead Carers to come to do personal care for my Aunt because we were impressed when on a phone call I told them what I wanted and what I expected. Previous calls to other companies resulted in them informing us what they would deliver but not asking what we wanted, so to have Home Instead covering all my Aunts needs was exceptional and professional. The carers were selected to my Aunts needs and the care they provided was second to none and I personally would like to praise and thank them. We did have an occasional issue over the two year period as I am hard to please, but Rachael took the time to sit listen and discuss the issues to the satisfaction of myself, my Aunt, also taking into consideration her own carers. Excellent only half covers the service they provided.

Home Instead Team - job well done and thank you all.

When I first met Sue as my CAREGiver, I had the distinct feeling that all was well. Immediately a friendship was made, that is growing stronger as time goes by. We enjoy conversations taking in a world of affairs, good, bad, our families, and of course the weather. Sue is obviously a very caring person and asks regularly about my poor sleeping pattern, have I taken my medication? And what would I like for dinner? Usually something has been taken out of the freezer the day previous. She is quite used to my expression “surprise me” and she invariably does. In addition, I can look forward to the sandwiches prepared for my tea – varied and pleasantly presented. I fear I haven’t mentioned her many attributes and the word compatible springs to mind. I believe that is the aim of Home instead and you have scored a Bull’s Eye. Well done.

I have just completed a survey but I feel I must say more about the excellence of your Shrewsbury Team than the survey allows for, but I am attaching a copy of this letter to the survey. My husband (who sadly died 18th June) had both Parkinson's and Alzheimer ’s disease. His health had been steadily declining, particularly since Christmas; we had had problems with other carers and care firms and only started with you in the beginning of May. I was impressed from the start, both with the efficiency with which things were organised but even more importantly with the care taken to get the right (small team) of carers to suit my husband and the time taken to ensure they all knew exactly how to handle him. By this time he could not walk and needed a great deal of assistance with transfers, feeding etc. They all in their own individual ways immediately established a rapport with him and he took to them all (something which had only happened with very few individuals in the past). How I wish we had come to you before, because for the month of May, he was happy and well cared for and I too, for the first time for a few months was able to relax a little. Then on the 2nd June his health took a sudden turn for the worse and after four days in hospital he was allowed to come home as there was nothing they could do for him. At this point, the care changed from good to exceptional. The care manager took over and arranged everything and was always on hand throughout. It was the same team of carers but more so (including sleepovers). The care they gave him was superb (the district nurse was particularly impressed) but it was much more than that, they were so kind and understanding with both of us that his last few days which could have been a nightmare were very precious indeed. I cannot thank them enough. I have deliberately not mentioned any of the individual carers by name as it would be wrong to single any one out, you should be proud of them all.

Clients

I want to congratulate you on the quality of your carers and the patience and understanding of your admin staff - as you know, before finding Home Instead, I had awful trouble, to put it kindly!! I also hope you can maintain the standard I have experienced - I will certainly recommend Home Instead.
