"Local Home Care Providers Home Instead Senior Care were very sad to receive the news regarding the death of a much loved Lady. We were proud to be able to assist this lady in her desire to remain at home, sadly in July this year she needed extra support and she then went into Nursing Care. Flo as we knew her was a very active, lively and independent lady who was full of fun. Flo passed away on the 8th October aged almost 95 years old, Home Instead Senior Care feel that it was a pleasure and a privilege to assist Flo to remain independent at home, and were grateful to receive such a lovely thank you card from the family. Florence: 25/10/1917-8/10/2012"

A Sad Farewell

"Home Instead helped our family through a very difficult time this summer. Reverend Derek was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in Summer 2011, and undertook a programme of Radiotherapy over the following winter. Unfortunately this was unsuccessful and in early June 2012, Derek received confirmation that the cancer had spread aggressively and was now incurable. Derek was the principal carer for his wife, who has early stage dementia. Their daughter, got in touch with Home Instead following a recommendation from Macmillan nurses, to provide some companionship for his wife, help around the home and to give Derek a break and a rest as he was increasingly housebound. This was a great source of support and comfort for her. As Derek grew progressively weaker, our daughter, and her brothers asked Home Instead to extend their care programme to provide round the clock care for Derek to enable Derek to remain at home during his last days, with care supplemented by Macmillan nurses, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the District Nurses. Derek died peacefully at home in August, aged 78, just a year after initially being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, and only just 11 weeks after the cancer was confirmed as incurable. Home Instead provided 24 hour care during the last 10 days. Derek's son said: “The care, support and sensitivity of all the Home Instead carers was wonderful and they responded very quickly to a rapidly changing situation, with enormous compassion. This meant that the family could be there for both Mum and Dad during Dad's last few days. The care from everyone involved, whether Home Instead, Macmillan, Marie Curie, District Nurses, GPs and specialists was first rate, and Dad died peacefully, at home, with the people he loved. He was at peace with what lay ahead, and it was a real privilege to be with Dad at the end of his life. Dad had written a couple of books, and the carers were such a key part of Dad’s end of life care that we gave each of them a copy of his second book “Oceans of Life” so that they could see what Dad was like before his illness, as a thank you for their support and compassion. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Service for Dad at Emmanuel Church Barnsley where around 300 family and friends gave thanks for Dad’s life - fittingly some of the Home Instead Carers were there. The collection at the Thanksgiving Service raised £1,500 split between the family’s chosen charities – Macmillan Nurses and the Barnsley Hospice.” Derek's wife is now very settled at Christian Care Home in Kexbrough, where she continues to receive wonderful care is a safe, warm and loving care home."

Derek's Son Paul

"A number of years ago, we were discussing care for our elderly parents with Age Concern. They advised that they had heard of a "new" Company in the area, Home Instead, but as yet had no feedback about them. We had a quick browse of the web site and decided to take "a gamble". It was the best gamble we ever took, a winner all round.   Initially, our requirements were simple, someone to do a little housework and provide a little companionship. Home instead filled the brief, readily, effectively, professionally and above all, with a smile and a "can do" attitude. Over the many years that we have been using their services, our parents needs have changed, become more complex and demanding. Home Instead have always been ready and able to step up to the mark, demonstrate a wonderfully flexible attitude, offer positive suggestions and deliver what they say they will. It is always amazing how they can react to any emergency to deliver an excellent service 'at the drop of a hat'.  Fab-u-lous!   Additionally, the people employed by Home Instead are of a high calibre whether Caregivers or the Office Teams.  I would and do trust, the lives of our parents with any one of them.!! We know they are in good hands.   For example, the Caregivers don't just work to a script, complete a 'to do list' , they are proactive. Our Caregivers not only shop, but also look for tempting items that may stimulate appetite. They are always looking for positive ways to motivate, stimulate and encourage a better quality of life.   Above all, Home Instead are not simply a care company, they are FAMILY.  I cannot give them a higher endorsement.    "

The family of Mrs F, Sheffield

"In what was a very tough year for them and us, you brought kindness, smiles and friendship.  I would like to say a big, big thank you to all involved in the care of my Mum and Dad.   "

The family of Mr and Mrs R, Sheffield.

"Mum has not had good experiences in the past with Care Agencies, and is quite nervous and unsettled when a new person visits the house. I am delighted to say that the carers from Home Instead have all struck up a very good rapport with Mum and have clearly gained her trust and she truly looks forward to them visiting. The fact that the carers treat Mum as a person and are spending time talking to her normally and encouraging her to look through photographs etc has, I am sure contributed to this, and I have noticed a distinct improvement in her general demeanour - she is a lot happier in herself. Initially I needed Homeinstead to cover a short term resource problem, but I am now using Home Instead for support long term for Mum as I have been so pleased with the service."

David - Sheffield

"I have just completed my first year of regular care; I was recommended to contact you by a friend who was already appreciating help. I was impressed by the initial comprehensive assessment of my needs and my family and I are happy to know that if the passage of time leads to requiring more care, it can be arranged. My Caregiver is pleasant and cheerful, always punctual and willing to assist with a variety of tasks in which she demonstrates all round excellence. I look forward to and appreciate her visits which enable me to enjoy a continued standard of comfortable living in my home."

Mrs A - Sheffield

"We were so delighted with Home Instead that we used them twice, for my grandmother and also for my father. Both times, Home Instead visited them at home, talked through their needs, likes, dislikes etc and matched the absolutely ideal carer. We had been advised by friends that there was a good chance it would take a while to find someone to help, with loved ones not taking to carers or carers being unsuitable so we were expecting a tricky time. We were so delighted and unbelievably relieved when we met Jo, who helped my grandmother and aunt (who has learning difficulties). She was so kind, understanding and just brilliant with them both. My Dad had suffered with Parkinsons for a while and it had got to the point where he needed a bit more help. Within a matter of days, Paul had been introduced. My Dad really enjoyed his company and appreciated his sensitive approach to what was a very difficult time in his life. It's not easy accepting a stranger into your home and life but both times, Home Instead got it absolutely right, first time. I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Thank you Home Instead!"
