Our proud ‘Parkinson’s Partners’
At Home Instead we recognise the growing need to provide specialist, tailored care for our clients living with Parkinson’s. That’s why earlier this year, we established a partnership with Parkinson’s UK to create a bespoke training programme, providing our franchise offices with the opportunity to train their CAREGivers with the essential skills and knowledge to support somebody living with the neurological condition.
We’re delighted that over 100 of our franchise offices have opted into the training already, with many more in progress. This has led to 215 CAREGivers being trained in Parkinson’s care across our network of franchise offices. After completing the course, CAREGivers can proudly wear their ‘Parkinson’s Partners’ badge demonstrating successful completion of training.
Jeremy Paxman, Ozzy Osbourne, Neil Diamond and Billy Connolly are just a few of the famous names associated with Parkinson’s – a disease affecting around 145,000 people in the UK. There’s no doubt that it’s starting to get the recognition it deserves.
Dawn Hedger is a CAREGiver at our East Hertfordshire office. She’s one of many that has undergone the training. Commenting she said, “I found the training so informative that I now feel confident about caring for somebody living at home with Parkinson’s. There are many practical things I have to consider, including helping clients walk, as well as the need to support them emotionally.
“The diagnosis of Parkinson’s can cause anxiety not only for the individual, but for their family. It’s my honour to give families the reassurance that their loved one is in safe hands and living happily at home, while enjoying the relationship they have always had. I wear my ‘Parkinson’s Partners’ badge with pride!”
By upskilling and providing CAREGivers with the relevant resources, practical skills and information about Parkinson’s, it will ensure they have the confidence, ability and understanding to deliver the very best quality care.
