Local man, Philip Batchelor, who owns the Cardiff office of Home Instead, has raised £325 for the Alzheimer's Society (Cardiff & The Vale) by cycling 120 miles from Cardiff to Aberystwyth in just three days.
Philip, who is a keen cyclist, departed from Cardiff Bay heading along the famous Taff trail and continued up through Merthyr Tydfil before reaching Brecon Beacons for a stopover. Philip continued the ride through Rhayader, reaching his final destination of Aberystwyth, enjoying some of the UK's most awe inspiring scenery along the way.
The cycle ride was not without its dramas as mid way through day one the chain and gears snapped on Philip's bike. Luckily his father in law came to the rescue in his estate car taking him home to get a new bike, for him to then start again.
Commenting, Philip said 'It was a great achievement and a challenge I enjoyed, it reminded me of what a beautiful part of the world I live in. We work closely with the Alzheimer's Society (Cardiff & The Vale) and wanted to support this very worthy charity. We are committed to providing high quality care for elderly people in Cardiff, many of whom suffer with Alzheimer's disease so it is a charity close to my heart.
'I take part in a number of charity events each year and I am looking forward to joining forces with other Home Instead offices in the UK for the next cycling challenge.'
Philip has two more events on the horizon in aid of the Alzheimer’'s Society (Cardiff & The Vale), one being his next cycling endeavour where he hopes to be joining another Home Instead office in Chester in a Cardiff to Chester tour. The second will see his team at Home Instead putting their best feet forward in the Cardiff Memory Walk on Sunday 19th September at Roath Park.
