New learning centre for expanding ‘at home care’ company

The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Susan Galloway attended Home Instead Senior
Care offices at York Eco Business Centre, Clifton Moor to mark the official opening of the company’s new learning centre.

The new facility houses an IT suite funded by ‘Get Connected’, a grant scheme which aims to open up internet access for staff and users of adult social care services, operated by The Social Care Institute for Excellence.

On-line training is one of the essential areas of the training provided for all Home Instead Caregivers, as business owner Luke Norbury explains:
“There are some excellent on-line training packages available which we incorporate
into our Caregiver training plans.  Having sufficient IT facilities on site provides
immediate and on-going access to the information our staff need to ensure they
deliver the best quality care to each of our clients.”

Home Instead Senior Care provides a full range of care services for adults in their own homes.  The business was established in York just two years ago and already employs over 50 Caregivers.  Luke says that demand for their services continues to be extremely high and that he would like more potential Caregivers to get in touch. He continues:
“Our policy is to employ the right kind of people, reliable people with caring, compassionate natures, and then we invest in their training to ensure that they have the right skills.  I would like to hear from anybody who would enjoy working in the care sector as we have people waiting for Caregivers right now.”

Luke and his team were joined by their Caregivers, clients and families to toast the new training facility and were delighted to have the support of the Lord Mayor at the event.

Home Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties; and companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients on visits or appointments to simple conversation and good company.
