‘Marvellously’ managed company rated ‘Outstanding’
Home Instead Fareham and Gosport have been dubbed ‘marvellously’ run by the independent regulatory body for care, the CQC.
Run by John and Alison James, the service provides care and companionship to older people throughout Fareham, Gosport and surrounding areas, enabling them to live independently in their own homes for longer.
During their visits, CQC inspectors spoke to clients, family members of clients, members of staff and representatives from other local services that had experience of working with Home Instead. Feedback was glowing. They learnt that the organisation is seen as being ‘kind and caring’ as well as ‘run marvellously.’
The relative of one client said, “They are not just carers, they’re family,” while a client commented, “They are all nice to me. On my birthday one carer brought me a lovely bunch of flowers.”
In one example referred to, Home Instead supported a couple both living with dementia to remain at home together, when this initially had been thought impossible. The couple was even supported by staff to eat dinner together, at the table, every evening. This was important to them but had become unobtainable without assistance.
Inspectors noted that ‘The caring culture was so embedded that people consistently received highly compassionate support.’ This support often extended to client’s family members and involved CAREGivers going above and beyond the call of duty.
One CAREGiver went out of their way to walk a client’s dogs, outside of their working hours, while another filled a client’s balcony with the type of plants that the client missed from their old garden. The service ran workshops for the family members of clients, to help them understand the possible progression of their loved one’s condition and how to engage the right healthcare professionals.
“We are so proud to receive this outstanding rating,” said John James, owner of Home Instead. “It’s outstanding people that make for an outstanding service and we have some truly wonderful, caring people on our team delivering exceptional care to our clients.
“People are at the heart of absolutely everything we do at Home Instead. We are only able to deliver exceptional care by finding exceptional people who build long term relationships with our clients who are supported by the same CAREGivers day in and day out.”
John continued, “We place support for our CAREGivers at the centre of our philosophy and it means so much when I read that CAREGivers said things like ‘I absolutely love my job.’ and “I’m hoping for a job for life.” They are on the front line of service provision supporting and advocating for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Their families and loved ones are trusting us to be the best we can be and care for them as we would care for our own loved one. I think the Inspectors report shows that our CAREGivers do just that.”
In addition to core care services, Home Instead also delivers dementia awareness training in the local community, runs many free community initiatives including Friendship and Memory Cafes as well as promoting awareness of scams targeting older people.
