A team of enthusiastic members of at-home care company, Home Instead Stockport, took part in a sponsored walk when they ‘Stepped out for Stroke’ to raise money for The Stroke Association.
Having heard about the event from a local Stroke Association representative who visited their offices, the group decided to step up to the challenge and help to raise money for a cause which affects many of their clients.
Step out for Stroke events take place across the country and this was a pilot event for the Stockport area which took place in Lyme Park, Disley, Stockport on Friday 27th May.
The Home Instead team included: co-owner Joanna Moore, Caregiver Sharon Leech, care manager Michele Bushell and James Cochrane, an 84 year old client who enjoys walking with his Caregiver each week and wanted to help the team in their fundraising efforts.
Joanna Moore commented: “It was a wonderful day and a great success. With the steel band playing and everyone wearing these colourful T-shirts, the atmosphere was fantastic. It was great that this event also allowed for those who were less able bodied to participate.”
With a walk of just 1 mile, the event was aimed at including those who were confined to a wheelchair or who had had a stroke themselves. The Home Instead team however, decided to continue the walk for an extra mile to raise more money for the cause.
The Stroke Association is thrilled with how well the event went and although they are still collecting the money raised, they are confident that they will have made enough money to make a real difference. Having received a great turnout of around 40 walkers, they are hopeful that the event will be just the first of many Step out for Stroke walks in the Stockport area. The team from Home Instead certainly plan to get involved again next year and hope to bring more people and raise even more money then.
