Home Instead preens and pampers local carers

As part of National Carers Week 2011, Home Instead Senior Care East Northants welcomed local carers to a day of pampering and relaxation at its offices in Higham Ferrers, Northants.

Home Instead hosted the pamper day event to celebrate the hard work of those that provide care in the local community. As a private company that specialises in at-home care for elderly locals, owners Mark Darnell and Elaine Lomax arranged the event to raise money for local charity Northamptonshire Carers in the spirit of National Carers Week.

Having donated £100 for the necessary time and expertise from beautician and Home Instead Caregiver Gemma, the event raised a further £100 for Northamptonshire Carers by offering a choice of treatments in return for a small donation.

Carers were offered brow shaping, manicures and hand and arm massages to relieve every-day stresses and strains; giving attendees the chance to relax and put themselves first for a change. With around 20 people attending the event, Mark and Elaine were thrilled with the feedback they received.

Mark commented: “National Carers Week is a great opportunity to say thank you to those who provide care in our community and it was great to be able to look after them for a change! By raising this money for Northamptonshire Carers, we hope to help them with their worthy mission of providing a comprehensive support service to unpaid carers living in Northamptonshire.”

Northamptonshire Carers is an independent local charity that offers a range of services to carers of all ages. As well as offering support groups, free gym membership and days-out, the charity empowers local carers to spend time looking after themselves. Jenny Osborne, Carers Strategy Support Officer at Northants Carers comments: “With 59,000 carers living in Northamptonshire today, it is really important to make sure there is someone looking after them! Events such as this pamper day are a fantastic opportunity for local carers to take some time out from their busy schedules and it is fantastic that Mark and Elaine have arranged the event with the sole purpose of raising money for our cause.”
