Double Outstanding joy for Cheltenham
Home Instead Senior Care Cheltenham and Cotswolds has cause to celebrate as they have been awarded an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the industry’s independent regulator, for the second time running.
Amanda Hamer and the team at Home Instead Cheltenham received its latest ‘Outstanding’ award in a report that stated, ‘The managers had sustained their outstanding care by continually reviewing their practices and using creative ways of supporting people by using the latest technology and care practices.’
Nationwide, only 3 per cent of home care companies are currently rated as outstanding, making the achievement of two successive awards particularly remarkable.
In order to make their recommendation, inspectors spoke to various members of staff, clients and their families. Clients told inspectors that ‘they continually received care and support which was exceptional and consistently responsive to their needs.’ They received comments such as ‘10 out of 10’ and ‘Brilliant.’
Inspectors also recorded that ‘Everyone, without exception, told us they were treated with kindness and were treated as equals.’ One client added, “They have exceeded my expectations as a care company.” Another said, “I am 100% happy with the staff, they do a magnificent job.”
Inspectors praised the fact that ‘Staff were exceptionally caring and went out of their way to ensure people lived a fulfilled life,’ taking ‘a balanced approach to enabling people to retain their independence.’ Staff described the service as ‘a family that was leading the way in good quality care.’
In one touching story, they documented how a person who had been bed ridden for some time ‘did not have the confidence to leave their home and had been unable to retain a relationship with their spouse who lived in a care home. With the dedication and support of staff the person, the client had achieved their ultimate goal of spending time with their spouse and now visited them in the care home or in the pub.’ The person’s health care professional wrote to inspectors saying, ‘This is something my client had dreamt of doing for many years but didn’t think it was achievable.’
Amanda Hamer, owner of the double outstanding office, said of the report, “To read a collection of so many lovely stories about our CAREGivers, and beautiful comments shared by our clients and their families is very moving. I know that my team does outstanding work. I am very pleased to have it officially confirmed for a second time.”
“When I read that the health care professionals we work with were ‘overwhelmingly positive’ about the service we provide I felt very proud. As the report says, people are at the heart of what we do. We will continue to stay true to our Home Instead values and to provide the highest standard of care to the older people in our community.”
A member of staff quoted in the report echoes Amanda’s sentiment, saying of their clients, “We want to do our absolute best for everyone. We want to make sure everyone lives the life that they want.”
