‘Compassionate’ company rated as Outstanding

Inspectors from England’s care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the level of care provided by Home Instead, Clacton, Frinton and Walton to be Outstanding.

In a recently published report, CAREGivers were described by their clients as ‘compassionate’ ‘marvellous’ and ‘professional’, and the company was described by inspectors as providing ‘exemplary care.’ Inspectors documented that Home Instead is a well-led service the consistently provides high quality care that ‘met and exceeded clients’ individual needs.’ 

They also noted how the leadership continued to be outstanding where ‘people, staff, relatives, and external professionals were extremely confident in the management of the service.’ The registered manager was highlighted as establishing a ‘person-centred ethos amongst the workforce, that consistently delivered quality care.’

The unique approach of Home Instead

Jean Allen, owner of Home Instead Clacton Frinton and Walton, set up the local office of Home Instead in 2008, and has provided care for hundreds of elderly clients in the local community over the past 12 years.

Commenting on the Outstanding CQC inspection rating, Jean said: “I am absolutely thrilled by the result of this inspection and would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of our amazing staff for all their consistent hard work. 

“We take a unique approach with our care services and are delighted that the CQC have rated us Outstanding. It is a reassurance that we are doing things right. Our caring and compassionate CAREGivers love their work and feel respected for what they do, and the service they deliver is highly valued by our clients and their loved ones.”

Clients of Home Instead spoke fondly of their CAREGivers. One said, “I am very happy; they (CAREGivers) are all marvellous.” Another said, “They are all very caring staff and I really enjoy their company. We are always laughing and chatting.”

Praise for communication systems

The CQC also praised how Home Instead have digitalised their communication systems and use various apps and online programmes to enable family members of clients to see what was happening with their relatives. A relative shared with inspectors their positive experience of using an application linked to electronic care records. They said, “The good thing for relatives is the app they provide so you can see which CAREGiver has visited, the jobs they have done and the comments they have written, which is a fantastic idea and is good to keep an eye on what is going on.”

When inspectors spoke to CAREGivers, they heard various glowing testimonies including, “It is more than just a team, it is family. We all work together, including the management who are visible and very approachable.”

In achieving this most coveted of ratings, Home Instead Clacton, Frinton and Walton joins a very select group of providers Only three per cent of adult social care providers have achieved this rating. 

Home Instead specialises in providing companionship-based care to older people in their own homes, supporting and encouraging them to embrace life fully.
