Amanda, who lives in Mossley, beat the other nine finalists to win the award after being put forward for it by Home Instead owner Mick Sheehan. Mick attended the national award ceremony with Amanda and delivered a rousing speech about her hard work caring for all of her clients. Mick commented: “Amanda is an invaluable member of the team and a truly inspirational caregiver who thoroughly embodies the Home Instead ethos.”

He continued: “Whenever we are asked to provide palliative care, it’s Amanda whose schedule we check first for availability. That is because she’s everything you would ever want in the way of support in the final days of your life or the life of a loved one. She’s loving and compassionate; she’s gentle yet motivational; she’s understanding and patient; but most of all she provides care in the most dignified way possible.”

As part of Home Instead’s at-home care, Amanda provides tailored services including companionship, meal preparation and medication reminders to her clients. One of Amanda’s clients has vascular dementia and does not have any family living locally. Amanda has established a fantastic relationship and routine with her and visits her four times a day. Thanks to her tasty home cooking, her client has now regained her appetite and is a healthy weight again.

Amanda commented, “I’m so pleased to have won this award. There were so many great finalists so I still can’t quite believe that I won! I really enjoy my job and find it so rewarding to care for my elderly clients.”

Amanda’s success continues as she is now a finalist for the Great British Care Awards for North West Carer of the Year. With the results to be announced on 8th October, all at Home Instead Oldham and Saddleworth have their fingers crossed that Amanda will be successful again.
