Dementia Awareness Week 2018 ran from 21st - 27th May.
We held three free Dementia Awareness workshops open to the general public. These workshops cover how Alzheimer's disease or other Dementias are diagnosed, types of common behaviours and how to manage them, and how to care for yourself whilst caring for your loved one. The workshops are particularly beneficial for those who have recently had a loved one be diagnosed with Dementia, or diagnosed themselves however anyone is welcome to attend.
Since 2013, these workshops have been attended by almost 1,000 people and 73% rated the workshop overall as excellent. Our workshops have been attended by people from Social Services, Red Cross, WRVS, Age Cymru Swansea Bay and many more organisations.
Some previous comments from our workshops:
“Listening to experiences of others in the group, techniques to manage behaviours and the Life Story Journal”
“The videos are a great way to illustrate points made… the training wasn’t full of jargon or medical terms either”
“Each section was valuable in relation to my work”
“Hearing other people’s experiences of dealing with Dementia sufferers and the techniques in supporting those with the condition”
Home Instead also ran a national campaign called ‘Songs to Remember’ where CAREGivers voted for their favourite songs to sing with their Clients. Here are the top 10:
10: My Way – Frank Sinatra
