Information & Resources
At Home Instead Senior Care Kirklees we understand that recruitment and management is the key to maintaining a high standard of service. If you wish to discuss this with a member of the office team please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01484 661 921
Understandably, one of the key questions asked by those looking to use our companionship, home help and/or personal care services is; "How do you recruit the people that will be delivering the care"?
Key recruitment points are as follows:
We telephone screen any applicants prior to sending an official Home Instead application form. Questions look to assess someone's attitude toward care. Do they simply want a job or do they actually want to become a Home Instead Caregiver? The two mindsets are poles apart.
Based on our findings we decide whether to send an official application with a soft deadline for submission.
Once the application form has been received we check details of employment history for any gaps or anomalies and discuss where appropriate.
An invitation to an interview is then offered.
At interview the candidate has to further demonstrate a commitment and motivation to providing reliable, emotionally sensitive and person centered support services.
It is not the case that years of experience in the social care sector is a prerequisite to being offered a caregiver position. We believe in the mantra "you can train the skills but not the ethos".
An invitation to our induction training may be offered.
The first two days of our induction is voluntary as it allows us to assess someone's attitude and ability to engage with a team/ understand information. Should a candidate not complete the two days to a satisfactory level we do not offer a position.
We believe this to be an effective way of assessing candidates in detail. We must have absolute confidence in our Caregivers before they engage in their first client assignment.
Successful candidates become CAREGivers
High calibre candidates demonstrate a good understanding of our training materials and strong communication skills. They progress to a further two days of training and a minimum of four hours shadowing/ observation.
Disclosure and barring service check (DBS) and References.
It is critical that we carry out in depth checks on all of our Caregivers. Therefore, we require four referees and obtain an enhanced DBS check for all of our Caregivers.
Caregivers start their Home Instead employment with a three month probationary period to ensure they receive enough support and attention to carry out their role in it entirety. From the delivery of care through to the completion of their administrative responsibilities, our Caregivers are supported.
I hope this gives both individuals seeking employment with Home Instead Senior Care Kirklees, and those looking to use our services a good understanding of our process.
Happy birthday to Home Instead Senior Care. Thanks to modern technology our youngest daughter and her husband introduced us to Home Instead when I needed a bit of help to look after my husband, in order to enable me to recover from a period of illness. We were pleased to meet Catherine, Care Manager, whom we found friendly and efficient. If I phoned her, she always makes contact as soon as possible, which is invaluable when some companies do not always see the importance of this. The two carers whom we have dealt with are calm, caring, interested in their work and that means my husband is in good hands. We enjoy our time away from each other, and I know that he is safe, and is spending a few hours with a person other than me. The continuity of the same carer is very important, because a relationship is built up over time. I have spoken to James twice, but have yet to meet him. I think that he has the right attitude to clients like us, who are in need of a support network. Best wishes.Mr and Mrs A
