Having spent 6 years flying around the world as International Cabin Crew followed by the last 2 years in recruitment, I am delighted to be working for a professional organisation which is genuinely making a difference and exceeding in the care industry.

I learnt many different skills working as cabin crew and met a variety of interesting people along the way. However, the clients stories of their adventures and their lives have been far more interesting and exciting and so enjoyable to listen to. 

Home Instead High Peak is based in Disley where I grew up. Its good knowing that I am providing a worthwhile service to people within my own community and to some  which I must have visited on Halloween when I was a child, trick or treating. Hopefully after my companionship and care calls they will forgive me!

I am currently focusing on  HR within the business,  recruiting experienced and skilled  Caregivers who are  passionate about caring and looking after people . In HR, we screen Caregivers thoroughly to make sure their skills and experience match the needs of our clients. We make sure they believe in the same values as we do. As Paul has said: “Would I want this person to care for my Mum in her home?” 

I very much enjoy visiting our clients . We are ensuring comfort and reassurance to families providing care to their loved ones so that they can remain in their own home without having to move out into a care home. We do this by caring for everyone with respect and with compassion.

Often, when I visit someone or their family to perform a Care Assessment, I am told that they have found themselves “…lying awake at night worrying about who will care for them or their loved one.” At Home Instead High Peak we want to eliminate those niggling late night worries. When I meet you to structure your Care Plan, I listen carefully to what you need, what you want, what you worry about, and how you identify your desire to remain in your own home. My job, my goal, and my challenge, is to make certain that all the uncertainties are cleared up so you can make the right informed choices. It’s important that you never lose sleep over worries about how you are going to live and enjoy day to day routines and pleasures.

There’s a good history about our team of professionals here at Home Instead High Peak. Our Director, Paul Vickers and I go back a long way in working together to provide quality care to the elderly through our professional positions with an international care home business. It’s great to work with a colleague I know and trust so well. Our CAREGivers quickly become part of Home Instead High Peak’s close knit team because we offer excellent training and we only accept carers who meet our standards. As a Care Manager, who is supported by a close-knit team of Caregivers, I am confident that my 25 years’ experience in care management and our well qualified staff will be the added plus in your life that gives you support, continuity, and quality care.

Typically, as Care Manager, I am the first of the Home Instead team you will meet. Your initial Care Assessment is arranged with me so that I can structure a Comprehensive Care Plan for you. After the Care Plan is implemented for you that will meet your needs, your living environment and your goals and, of course, addresses your concerns, a CAREGiver skilled in supporting those needs will be assigned to you. It’s important to build and maintain a trusting relationship and friendship between our clients and Caregivers, so we strive to assign a CAREGiver who might share a common area of interest with our clients. Our staff enjoy their work and it shows. You can expect to be greeted with a smile and a professional demeanour. I’m proud of our staff and the success we have had and the excellent feedback we receive from clients and professional organizations.

As a former Operations Director for an international care home company, both my experience in elderly care and my desire to offer quality care at home, led me to open the High Peak office of Home Instead Senior Care. What’s always been top of my mind when I interview potential CAREGivers is: Would I want this person to care for MY mum in her home? Now, it’s become a lynchpin slogan for us all here at Home Instead Senior Care High Peak.

 

Knowing your community and the surrounding communities is an invaluable asset to managing any business. It is particularly important in managing and growing a business in the arena of care for the elderly. Disley has been my home for more than fifteen years. My family and I enjoy the energy that embraces this area of Derbyshire and Cheshire. There’s a feeling of mutual respect and admiration for the past here, an energetic present, and a hopeful future. These characteristics mirror what we are all about at Home Instead High Peak. Our clients are not one dimensional entries in a data base; rather, they hold the past, they live the present, and we strive to make sure that they will enjoy a well-cared-for future.

With my Community and Health Work and my academic degree in Youth and Community Work, I found that my teaching qualification helped me find the path I always wanted: training individuals to meet challenges and to aim for their highest level of performance.

 

At Home Instead High Peak, I have been able to apply my experience and training as a CAREGiver to the pursuit of recruiting and training individuals to learn the technical, legal, and safety issues involved in caring for our valuable clientele. We take pride in our staff and know that when we send them to your home, or your loved one’s home, they arrive fully trained and eager to assist in day to day care, and even special outings, or events that might arise.

 

Many of our carers come with other talents as well, and find that along with their technical skills, they can share their own talents that might range from music, to art, to genealogy research, to finding the right recipe for tonight’s tea, or even to singing favourite tunes.

 

Well, I do refrain from singing to our clients, but I sure don’t mind strumming my guitar to their requests when I am able. I’m enthusiastic about my job; proud of my profession; and hope to be a life enhancing addition to the many services we provide to our clients each day. But…best not to ask me to sing…
