Celebrating 6 yrs at Home Instead High Peak

Our Deputy Care Manager Mark Tinson celebrating his 6 yr Anniversary at Home Instead High Peak.

Heres what Mark had to say :

The 5th of May 2017 marked six years since I began my career at Home Instead in the High Peak. An awful lot has changed for me and for the company.  I have been lucky to progress within the business, starting off working many years as a full-time CareGiver.

As Home Instead grew I was asked to merge my Caregiver role with training CareGivers and then taking on more responsibilities with HR and Recruitment and now onto my current position as Deputy Care Manager………………………. My Gran is so proud!

In all honesty, it’s not about the job roles though or job titles, my love of this job is because of the clients we have and the difference that we are able to make to people’s lives every single day.

When I speak with new CareGivers I tell them what a privilege it is to be a part of somebody’s life, where we can make a difference to someone with something as small as a smile and a joke all the way through to offering comfort at a time of crisis.  It’s a privilege to be trusted and allowed into somebody’s home and somebody’s life.

There are very few jobs where you get to make a difference to another person with everything you do and where we get the chance to be the CareGiver we want to be.  Everything we do from the first minute to the last with our clients give us the opportunity to make a difference.  The way you interact with your clients all has effect for better or for worse.  You often hear in the media horror stories about the care industry, but you infrequently hear the good that carers do up and down the country.  What Home Instead High Peak do in our little part of the care world is amazing, in my years here I have seen clients blossom and grow in confidence, find the strength to fight conditions and I have seen the quality of their lives grow immeasurably.

I genuinely believe that many of our clients have led longer and happier lives directly because of the work our amazing team have done and I’m honoured to have occasionally played a tiny part in that.

I still do care calls regularly and even though my job title has changed, at the end of the day I’m still working to the same goal as I did when I first started and that is to ensure our clients get the very best care and are treated with the utmost dignity and respect. They deserve it after all, they have given so much to so many.  Care isn’t a one-way street, I have gained so much joy, laughter and knowledge from my clients and all of my work colleagues.

I used to end training sessions with new CareGivers saying, “if you love this job only half as much as I love the job you have found the best job you will ever have”.  I know I am lucky because I still believe this.
