Find out how to be a CAREGiver with Home Instead

For most people, when they think about care in general, thoughts of residential care homes come to mind. Places where people are taken care of 24 hours a day, sat down to dinner, helped back and forth to bed, and perhaps left to sit in front of the TV all day. A lot of residential care homes provide a place to care for individuals who need it, but they often do not have the capacity to deliver personalised care to every person, which overall creates a much weaker care system.

Similarly, when people are thinking about care jobs, their mind automatically jumps to residential care homes. However, there are far more options for care jobs available when you know where to look.

At Home Instead Birmingham, we employ people in the local area from all walks of life, but they all have at least one thing in common. They are looking for a rewarding job helping others. This quality is the number one thing that we look for in CAREGivers.

There are often misconceptions surrounding work in the care sector. Not only do a lot of people assume that care work only exists in residential care homes, but most people also believe that they will need years of experience before they can even consider a job as a CAREGiver, as well as a number of qualifications. These elements can be great to have, but they are not always necessary to begin a career as a CAREGiver.

Home Instead’s first priority is seeking out people that display kindness and compassion. We appreciate that everyone is different and looking for different things in care work, and we use these differences and unique personalities to add diversity to our workforce, and give our clients the best chance to find a CAREGiver that they can really call a friend.

At Home Instead Birmingham, we provide a wide range of different care services, which means that we can offer a range of flexibility to people who are looking for different things in their caring career. We offer personal services, specialist Alzheimer’s and Dementia care, home help services, and of course companionship care. We offer all of these services in various arrangements to our clients, but we take care to ‘match’ each of our clients to their CAREGivers to ensure that their personalities and interests can fit together in a way that creates a true bond of trust and friendship, regardless of what other support services are being provided.

Being a CAREGiver is an incredibly personal thing, and everyone gets something different from their experience, but each of our CAREGivers always tell us that the most rewarding thing about their job is creating new friendships with people that have such interesting lives and stories to share.

So... How do you become a CAREGiver?

We have already mentioned that you don’t need years and years of experience or a great number of qualifications to apply to become a CAREGiver with Home Instead. If you are kind, considerate, compassionate, and empathetic, with a sense of responsibility, then we would encourage you to apply for a CAREGiver position in the Birmingham area.

If you are approved as a Home Instead Senior Care CAREGiver, then you will be entered into an exclusive training programme. Home Instead Senior Care if the only home care provider in the UK to offer City and Guilds accredited, which means you can be assured that you are receiving the best possible training in the field.

Following all the relevant training and comprehensive induction programme, all of our CAREGivers are then assigned a current CAREGiver that they can shadow in order to get to know their clients and their routine. All of our CAREGivers also achieve a new qualification as we enrol them to study a QCF qualification as part of their ongoing training.

Being a CAREGiver for Home Instead Birmingham offers great flexibility across all areas of the community along with great benefits such as mileage and holiday allowance, and competitive pay, while spending your working day helping other individuals in so many different ways.
