Meet the team

Owners - Steve & Julie Akroyd

We own and run the Macclesfield office of Home Instead Senior Care.

We started the business in January 2007 after a life spent in the corporate world.

Steve has a doctorate in Behavioural Psychology, and has spent  30 years working with IT companies, most recently as a consultant to HMG for Central Government departments, until a stroke curtailed his career.

Julie, meantime, has spent a number of years in corporate sales. She is a truly caring person and before setting up the business had experienced being a carer at close hand. Following the death of her mother at an early age, Julie looked after her grandmother for over 26 years. Despite this, she was involved in a number of other activities and held down a full time job and as they say, “ask a busy person! “Julie is always there to help and make things happen.

Steve takes care of the day to day running of the business, to guide and direct overall performance. Julie, on the other hand, takes care of the team in the office and also oversees client services to ensure that our clients are receiving the care they need and that families are happy with the support being provided.

“It is a real privilege for us to do the work we do not only to work together but also to work so closely with people in the local community.”

They live locally along with their cats and when they aren’t  working, they like to go travelling to see other parts of the world, and of course, they can always find time to meet up with friends for a good meal out.

Our caregivers are committed to providing a reliable, compassionate and friendly care service. Their passion and dedication is an inspiration and they arrive at a client’s home with a smile and a friendly welcome. Many of our caregivers entered the care sector because they want to make a difference to the lives of the elderly, every day they provide personal care, companionship and comfort.

Kinga Stepien-Bialy, Registered Care Manager

Hello, I am the Registered Care Manager at Home Instead East Cheshire. I live in Macclesfield and I am delighted to be working with such a great care company and a wonderful team. 

I have experience of care both in a professional capacity and also in my personal life. I gained my first experience of care when looking after my grandmother; I helped with her daily living care and saw how being able to stay in her home improved her quality of life and what a difference good quality care can make. 

People can forget that older people have a wealth of knowledge and interesting experiences and stories to share. In fact, whilst out on a service call, I was able to share my love of art in a long discussion with one of our 98 year old clients, leaving my colleagues wondering where I had got to! 

I live by the ethos of treating others how you would wish to be treated. This motto is extremely important within the care sector, because you can then guarantee that you are providing someone with only the best care, combined with dignity and respect. 

When I’m not working, I am passionate about classical music, I enjoy walking locally and in Derbyshire and Wales, as mentioned I also love art (although I don’t paint), my favourite artist is Salvador Dali.    

Care Coordinator, Rachel Windelinckx

Hi, I'm Rachel and I'm born and bred in Macclesfield. I am the care coordinator at Home Instead which means that my job is to ensure our clients get not only the right CAREGivers, but those who will deliver the very best HISC branded care package. My background is in care, having worked for the Rossendale Trust for many years, starting as a care assistant and working my way up to that of care manager. 


I have a strong work ethic and love to look after people, not only our clients but also my colleagues. I feel proud to work for Home Instead, providing care as it should be.


When I am not working I enjoy travelling and I have been to many places but visiting Japan is still on my list of things to do. I love to read and spend time with my lovely Springer Spaniel.


Tracy Garlick - Finance Administrator

Hi! My name is Tracy and I am the Finance Administrator at Home Instead East Cheshire.  Day to day, I am responsible for making sure that our clients are billed correctly and that CAREGivers receive the right amount of money in their pay-cheque.

I was born and raised in Macclesfield and I love spending my free time taking walks in the countryside with my daughter. We also spend our leisure time swimming in the local swimming pool as well as spending time with our family.

Lesley Wright, Recruitment & Retention Officer

Hello, here is a little about me.

I have worked in the health care sector for 20 + years including sales of manual handling equipment for care homes and the mobility market. I have also worked in infection control in care and hospital settings, along with a number of years in medication training to care homes and nursing homes. 

I have a passion for care and particularly for the elderly and disabled people. I have first-hand experience caring for both of my elderly parents in their latter years and I appreciate the care that is needed to make sure that elderly people can live their life to the full and as best as possible. 

Home Instead excel in the superb care they offer their clients and our CAREGivers are very special people. They often come from varied backgrounds which allows us to match our CAREGivers to our clients which helps build long and trusting relationships.  I am really enjoying finding the right caring and compassionate people to join our team.

I am married and live in Sandbach with my husband Steve and our rescue cat Gizmo. 

I enjoy walking, reading, theatre, yoga and I have recently got into Zumba! 

Teryl Knowles

Hello, my name is Teryl and I am the office admin assistant.  Born in Macclesfield I live locally with my family in Ollerton.

After working in banking, sales and youth work I am delighted to be working with such a great care company.

Having first hand experience of looking after an elderly , disabled parent I appreciate the wonderful service Homeinstead provides.

When not working I enjoy anything to do with horses and walking our jack russell terrier Hector.


Deborah and Bev - Team Leaders

Our two Team Leaders are an essential part of the support package that we provide to our CAREGivers. Their role is multi-faceted and includes mentoring new CAREGivers, carrying out competency assessments, conducting Quality Assurance and Service Review visits, providing advice and support to clients and CAREGivers outside of office hours and much, much more.
