Home Instead Launch ‘Cool’ New Scheme

We were thrilled to be mentioned on the North West Ambulance Service Website recently. Below is the article or click here to visit their Website.

A fridge magnet is at the centre of a new scheme launched by local home care company, Home Instead Senior Care and the North West Ambulance Service to ensure that Home Instead clients receive appropriate care, fast, in the event of a situation requiring a home visit from an ambulance crew.

The magnet, produced by Home Instead, will alert the visiting ambulance crew to the fact that the patient is a Home Instead client and it will provide details of where they can access vital information from the Home Instead care team.

Home Instead Senior Care specialises in providing non-medical home care for older people in Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Alsager and surrounding areas. Owner Dawn Sime said:

“We think this is a great idea, it’s simple really, but it will make a real difference and the ambulance service is right behind it. It’s a bit like the principle behind ‘ICE’; where you can check a mobile phone to find a person’s ‘In Case of Emergency’ contact details. With the fridge magnets, the ambulance crew are briefed to check the fridge door and if they see the magnet they’ll be able to find out all about the client quickly which is of huge benefit to them and ultimately the elderly patient.”

Dawn continues: “We have daily contact with most of our elderly clients and build long-lasting and caring relationships with them. We understand that elderly people can often feel very vulnerable when they are on their own and this is a way in which we can provide an extra layer of care even when we are not there.  If it helps just one person then it will be very much worth it. I really think that this is an idea which could be rolled out to other emergency services and nationwide.”

Mark Allen, Community Specialist Paramedic,  North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: ”As an ambulance trust, crews and clinicians are supported prior to arriving on scene with as  much relevant information as possible,  so that once with the patient a clinical assessment can be started immediately.  The Home Instead fridge magnet supports improved levels of communication between healthcare professionals and the ambulance service, by signposting further information provided first hand by someone who knows the patient”.

Each day Home Instead provides home care services such as companionship, personal care and home help from just an hour help a day to 24 hour care.
