CAREGiver gives birthday kisses to raise over £900 for Stroke Association

A local CAREGiver has raised an amazing £920 at her 70th birthday party by giving birthday kisses and hugs to raise funds for Crewe Stroke Support Group.

Ursula Broadhurst works for Home Instead Senior Care providing care to older people so they can continue living in their own homes and has been a volunteer at the Stroke group for around 3 years. A couple of years ago her employer Dawn Sime at Home Instead, wanted to help out and support their charity.

Ursula explains, “I work as a CAREGiver and Dawn asked me if I would go on secondment to the Stroke Club for 3 months. The idea was that I would do what I could to help them progress their work with people who have experienced a stroke. I was so inspired by the team working there that I decided to carry on supporting them in whatever way I could.”

The birthday party, held at the Rising Sun on Middlewich Road in Crewe, was a roaring success and the money raised came from a prize raffle and by charging supporters for birthday hugs and kisses, “What a great idea I thought” said Ursula, “exhausting but lots of fun! I didn’t actually put a price on a hug or a kiss, I just asked people to throw money in a bucket. I’m totally overwhelmed by their generosity.”

Home Instead owner Dawn Sime said, “We are so proud of Ursula, not only is she 70 years young and still dedicated to her work as a CAREGiver but she has done so much for the Stroke Club too. She works very hard to improve the lives of others and we are very grateful to have her on our team. The huge amount of money she raised is a credit to her and just shows how much people love her and appreciate what she does.”
