I am a Paramedic with South Central Ambulance service. Yesterday I attended a call to the house of M in Alresford, where carers Steve and Susan had found M suffering complications of her ongoing illnesses. I wanted to commend both Steve and Susan for their professionalism, empathy and dedication to their roles. Unfortunately in our line of work we find ourselves in many situations where care staff do not meet our expectations, but yesterday myself and my colleague were definitely impressed. Without Steve and Susan’s understanding of M’s health, character and needs, supported by the comprehensive documentation that we found in her care folder we certainly would have not been able to treat her at home so rapidly and accurately, possibly requiring hospital admission which would have been against M’s desires. The flexibility where Susan was able to stay with M whilst she recovered, helping us with what needed doing, and for Steve to come back later was undoubtedly beneficial as a familiar friendly face to reassure her that everything was going to be ok. Please pass on my gratitude, you are doing a wonderful job – perfect service, care and compassion and exactly what our elderly and vulnerable deserve! Thank you again.CG
