Being a CAREGiver
Our Caregivers say it better than I can.
Cheryl, Diane & Scott with his Nan
After running my own promotional printing business in South Africa for over 20 years, I decided when we moved here, that I did not want to go back into the corporate world.
As I have a lot of empathy towards the elderly, and after a lot of "soul searching" I realised that this was the area of employment I wanted to get into. I spoke to many carers from quite a few different agencies and also did a lot of research on the internet and decided to try Home Instead.
I had the interview and liked what they stood for, did my training and the rest is history..
I like the fact that every day, I make a difference to the people that I visit, whether I am making sure they eat, cleaning up their homes or just sitting chatting to them.
It’s just the "soulfood" that I needed, and it really makes my day when I know I am making life a little easier for them.
Hello my name is Diane and I have worked as a nurse and a carer for more years than I care to remember.
I retired from nursing, but after a period of time I found I was missing the hands on of caring.
I was browsing on the Internet when I came across Home instead, to be honest I didn't believe what I was reading, would I actually be paid for spending one hour chatting to someone, having one hour to help a client wash and dress, spend an hour in the garden, taking a client out for a coffee.
How wrong was I, to be honest it's been a wonderful 8 months, I have some wonderful clients, not only do I hopefully put a smile on their faces, I can ensure you that I come home smiling and feeling I have, for at least an hour, made a client’s life a little happier.
I can honestly say you will not be disappointed in working for Home Instead.
Do not be worried, you will always find a member of the team to support you and offer advice and guidance, so you are never alone to deal with any worries or concerns.
Good luck, I'm sure you will soon be enjoying yourself and feeling very proud of the step you are about to take.
My name is Scott.
After looking after my Nan who had cancer, and not too long after she had left us, I started looking after my 92 year old grandad and he told me I should do it as a job.
I made the leap and joined Home Instead.
The company has been superb with training and help when you need it. The ladies in the office are all great to work for; friendly and very helpful.
