Home Instead Senior Care Warwickshire, a company that provides at-home care for elderly locals, has promoted Rowington girl, Jo Chambers, from caregiver to recruitment and retention officer after only 5 months with the company.
Jo (34) is a trained psychiatric nurse and worked for 6 years with the ‘crisis and home treatment team’ in Stratford working for Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust. The team’s objective then, as it is now with Home Instead, is to support people in their own homes to allow them to lead an independent life.
When Jo heard about the work Home Instead were doing locally to help elderly people she jumped at the chance to be involved and became a caregiver, a role she loved. Jo comments, “Working as a caregiver was fantastic. We have a minimum call time of an hour and always carefully coordinate clients and caregivers to encourage long-lasting and rewarding relationships. I always looked forward to visiting my clients and loved seeing the difference I was making to their day to day lives.”
Very quickly business owner, Phil Maundrill, spotted her potential for a more senior role within the business. As recruitment and retention officer, Jo is responsible for identifying the right people to become caregivers and, once they are on board, ensures they are happy in their roles and, most importantly have the training they need to carry out their job.
Commenting on her new role, Jo said, “I know what a rewarding job it is to be a Home Instead caregiver and am now able to pass on my enthusiasm to potential new team members!
“We are currently looking to recruit around 30 new caring and compassionate people who love spending time with older people so I’m being kept very busy at the moment with the ‘recruitment’ part of my new job.”
Jo is keen to recommend a caring career to others. She says that the role requires a lot of patience and understanding as well as an empathetic nature but she finds it thoroughly rewarding and says she couldn’t ask for more when it comes to job satisfaction. Jo’s criterion for selecting caregivers is always to ask herself; “Would I feel completely confident asking this person to care for a member of my own family”?
