Home Instead team completes the Southport Memory Walk

The team from Home Instead Senior Care in Southport put their best feet forward to take part in the Memory Walk at the Botanic Gardens to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society this month.

Owners Anthea Pilkington and Irene Hough together with a group of caregivers joined over 100 supporters and walked around the Botanic Gardens, enjoying every minute of it on what was a gloriously sunny day. They listened to Ben Mott, Manager of the Alzheimer’s society in Southport who read a number of poems and who, along with his team gave much encouragement to the walkers throughout the event.

Commenting, Anthea and Irene said: “It was a beautiful and poignant day, most who attended were walking in memory of a loved one who has been affected by Alzheimers disease or dementia.   It really made everyone very aware of the importance of getting the message across about this worthwhile cause.  In our day to day lives we work very closely with older people in the area, many suffer from dementia which has increased in recent years due to the ageing population.  We understand the difficulties it can cause for both the sufferer and their families. The Memory walk is now a firm fixture on our calendar and the funds raised will help support the Alzheimer’s society in their fight against dementia and will help them to continue offering this much needed service.

At Home Instead we specialise in providing care and support to people in their own homes.   Our services include companionship, personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, housekeeping, accompanied shopping and specialist assistance with dementia and Alzheimer’s care.   We can also provide respite care and support around hospital discharge from a few hours a week up to 24 hours per day.
